  6. Introduction to the `term' v4.3 distribution
  7. ============================================
  8. Since so many things went wrong with the `term' v3.4 distribution I decided
  9. to change the distribution scheme in v4.0. The same scheme has been applied
  10. to  v4.3 since it worked rather well with v4.0, v4.1 and v4.2 and I did not
  11. want  to  rewrite  all the script files which were used to put the v4.0 and
  12. v4.1 distributions together. There are now nine distribution archives whose
  13. contents  are listed below. For the most important files PGP signatures are
  14. provided to let you verify their integrities.
  15.    You  do  not  need  to  download all the nine archives in order to get a
  16. working  `term'  v4.3  setup.  Just  download the files you need, explained
  17. below is what the archives contain.

  20. term-4.3-main.lha (618119 bytes)
  21. --------------------------------
  22. This  archive  contains  all you need to run `term' on your Amiga. Only the
  23. basic set of libraries and documentation files are included. If you wish to
  24. use    other   external   transfer   transfer   protocol   libraries   than
  25. xprzmodem.library  or  need  to  use  special  external  terminal emulation
  26. libraries   you   should   download  the  term-4.3-libs.lha  archive.  More
  27. documentation files can be found in the term-4.3-doc.lha archive.

  29. term-4.3-030.lha (615533 bytes)
  30. -------------------------------
  31. This  archive contains all you need to run `term' on an Amiga equipped with
  32. an   MC68020/030/040/060   CPU.   Only  the  basic  set  of  libraries  and
  33. documentation  files  are  included.  If  you  wish  to  use other external
  34. transfer  transfer protocol libraries than xprzmodem.library or need to use
  35. special  external  terminal  emulation  libraries  you  should download the
  36. term-4.3-libs.lha  archive.  More  documentation  files can be found in the
  37. term-4.3-doc.lha archive.

  41. This  archive  contains the main program documentation in AmigaGuide format
  42. for browsing with MultiView and the like and additional documentation files
  43. for the file transfer and terminal emulation libraries.

  45. term-4.3-libs.lha (129187 bytes)
  46. --------------------------------
  47. This   archive   contains  special  support  libraries  which  enhance  the
  48. functionality  of  `term'.  These are terminal emulation libraries and file
  49. transfer  protocol libraries. It definitely is a good idea to download this
  50. archive if you don't have these libraries around already.

  52. term-4.3-extras.lha (268054 bytes)
  53. ----------------------------------
  54. This  archive  contains  extra material that is not absolutely necessary to
  55. run  `term'  v4.3, but may still either be fun to have around or adds extra
  56. functionality. Included are revision 5 of the Hydracom Amiga port which can
  57. be  used  with  `term'  (note:  Hydracom  is  a bidirectional file transfer
  58. protocol  similar  to bimodem), sample ARexx scripts, character translation
  59. tables and sound files.

  63. This  archive  contains  the  user  interface text, translated into Danish,
  64. Dutch,  French,  German,  Italian,  Spanish and Swedish and a blank catalog
  65. translation  table  file  to  fill  in. Download this file only if you want
  66. `term'  to  use  Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Spanish or Swedish
  67. user  interface  text  (Workbench 2.1 or Workbench 3.x required) or wish to
  68. translate the user interface text into your preferred language.

  72. This  archive  contains  the  source  code  to  the  entire `term' project,
  73. including  the  new  user  interface  support  library.  This is by far the
  74. largest  archive in the distribution, so think carefully if you really need
  75. to download it.

  79. This  archive  contains  the  main program documentation in TeX DVI format,
  80. suitable  for  printing  on  a TeX setup. Download this archive only if you
  81. wish to create a printed manual.

  85. This  archive contains the main program documentation in PostScript format,
  86. suitable  for  printing on a PostScript printer. Download this archive only
  87. if you wish to create a printed manual.

  90. Installation
  91. ============
  92. `term'  v4.3  is  very  easily installed; just unpack all the archive files
  93. into   the   same  directory.  Ignore  any  messages  about  files  getting
  94. overwritten  since  some  files  are  found  in more than one archive. When
  95. unpacked  you will have the complete distribution sitting on your hard disk
  96. drive  just  as  it looks like in my original distribution tree. You do not
  97. need  to  copy  the  libraries, fonts or catalog files to the corresponding
  98. system directories, `term' will find the files contained therein all on its
  99. own.
