- █ Editing Data
-
- This section describes the basic data
- editing techniques.
-
-
- █ Selecting a block of data
-
- Select a block of data cells by
- dragging the mouse over the desired cells.
- If the starting cell is a row number, then
- the selection is advanced by rows; if the
- staring cell is a column name, then the
- selection is advanced by columns. Click
- the Select All box to select the entire
- data sheet. You can also select a block
- by choosing the Sheet|Select Block or
- Sheet|Select All commands. The Edit Menu
- contains data sheet editing commands that
- let you cut, copy, paste, delete and
- insert data in the Sheet View windows.
- If you make mistakes, you can undo the
- most recent change.
-
-
- █ Clipboard
-
- All the data editing commands use the
- Clipboard to interchange data. The
- Clipboard is the magic behind cutting and
- pasting. It is a special data storage
- place that holds data that you have cut
- or copied, so you can paste it elsewhere.
-
-
- █ Finding and replacing a number in a
- data sheet
-
- To find a number, choose the Sheet|Find
- command. You can type in the number you
- want to search in the Value to Find
- input-line box and set the searching
- direction and options.
-
- To replace a number, choose the
- Sheet|Replace command. You can type in
- the number you want to search in the Value
- to Find input-line box and the new value in
- the New Value input-line box and set the
- searching direction and options.
-
-
- █ Cutting/copying data from a data sheet
-
- You can move a block of data to the
- Clipboard by choosing the Edit|Cut or
- Edit|Copy commands. The difference
- between them is that Cut removes the data
- from the data sheet. The removed data
- cells are filled with blank cells. You
- can paste that data into any other data
- sheet or somewhere else in the same data
- sheet by choosing the Edit|Paste command.
-
-
- █ Pasting data from Clipboard
-
- To paste data from the Clipboard to a
- data sheet you choose the Edit|Paste
- command. This command puts data from the
- Clipboard into the current data sheet at
- the cursor position. The action depends
- on what you have had in the Clipboard. If
- the data in the Clipboard contains columns
- (rows), then it will paste data in columns
- starting at the column (row) which contains
- the cursor cell; if the data in the
- Clipboard contains a block of data cells,
- then the paste action will put the data in
- the sheet starting at the current cursor
- cell. The paste action overwrites data in
- the data sheet, not inserts data into the
- data sheet. To insert data, use the
- Edit|Insert command.
-
-
- █ Clearing a block of data
-
- To remove the selected data from the
- data sheet without placing it into the
- Clipboard, you choose the Edit|Clear
- command. The removed data cells are filled
- with blank cells. This means that you can
- not paste the data as you could if you had
- chosen Cut or Copy commands.
-
-
- █ Deleting selected data blocks
-
- To delete a block of data, you choose
- the Edit|Delete command. This command
- works like the Edit|Clear command. It
- removes the selected data from the data
- sheet but does not place it into the
- Clipboard. This command also shifts the
- data sheet so that there are no blank
- cells.
-
-
- █ Inserting columns, rows, and a
- block of data
-
- To insert the clipboard data to a
- position, just move the active cell to the
- position you want to insert and choose the
- Edit|Insert command. This command is
- similar to the Edit|Paste command, but
- this command shift the data sheet so that
- the existing data cells are kept in the
- data sheet.
-
-
- █ Undoing an editing command action
-
- You can undo the last editing action
- such as cut, copy, paste, delete, etc. by
- choosing the Edit|Undo command to restore
- the data in the current data sheet to the
- way it was before.
