- Before You Begin
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
- Thank you for purchasing your EtherPCI LAN Card II from Linksys. The
- instructions below explain how to set up the card's software drivers
- for use with your network software.
-
- Be sure to read the User Guide before installing your card. In addition,
- please make note of these hardware & software guidelines:
-
- * Plug-and-play computers have a number of expansion slots inside.
- Each slot has a pre-assigned interrupt (IRQ) and I/O address (MEM).
- When the Linksys LAN Card is inserted into a PCI slot, the PC's
- BIOS should automatically assign a unique IRQ & MEM value for the
- network card.
-
- In most cases, the card should work fine using the pre-
- assigned IRQ and I/O addresses. Occasionally, however, the
- card may have an IRQ conflict with other adapters in the system.
- If this happens, you will need to change the IRQ setting of the
- LAN Card manually. There are three possibilities:
-
- - Your PCI may not allow you to change the IRQ value(s) of
- the PCI slot(s). In this case, you will ONLY be able to
- use the IRQ & MEM values that have been pre-assigned to
- each slot.
-
- - You may be able to change the IRQ & MEM values for a given
- PCI slot by setting jumpers on your PC's mother board.
- Please refer to your PC's motherboard user guide for
- specific instructions.
-
- - Your PC may allow you to change the IRQ & MEM values for
- a given PCI slot by accessing the PC's BIOS setup menu.
- Please refer to your PC's user guide for specific details.
-
- Although it is advisable to set a unique IRQ address for
- each PCI slot, depending on your PC, you may or may not
- be able to do so.
-
- Setup
- -----------------------------------------------------------------
- 1. Turn off your computer and insert the EtherPCI II card into one
- of your PC's PCI slots.
-
- 2. Turn on your computer and start up Windows NT 4.0.
-
- 3. Click on Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Networking.
-
- 4. When you see "Install networking?" click on Yes.
-
- 5. Select "Wired to the network," then click Next.
-
- 6. Choose the "Select from list" button.
-
- 7. Click on the "Have Disk" button. Put the Linksys EtherPCI II
- disk into drive A:. Then type A:\WINNT and press the Enter key.
-
- LNEPCI II PCI Adapter will appear in a box. Click OK, then Next.
-
- Select the protocols you want to use: TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, and/or
- NetBEUI. Then click Next.
-
- Pick the network services you want (we suggest using all of them).
- Then click Next, followed by Next.
-
- 8. NT 4.0 will need to copy some files to your system. When
- asked to insert your NT CD-ROM, put it into your CD-ROM drive
- and enter the drive letter where it is located, followed by
- the letters "i386". For example, if your CD-ROM is drive D:
- on your system, you would type D:\i386 and press Enter when
- Windows asks you where the CD-ROM is located.
-
- 9. If NT 4.0 asks you for the Ethernet ID address, click on Ignore
- UNLESS you have TWO EtherPCI II cards in your computer. If
- you have two, you'll need to enter the Ethernet ID address
- for each one here.
-
- To get the ID address for an EtherPCI II card, run the Setup
- program on the EtherPCI II disk under the UTILITY directory
- and select "Show Physical Address" from the main menu. The
- card's address will appear (example: 0 20 78 10 10 c0).
-
- 10. NT will copy the necessary files to your system. When asked to
- do so, select the bindings settings that you want, followed by
- Next, and finally, Next to start the network.
-
- You may be asked to enter the name of your computer at some point.
- Give your computer a unique, easy-to-remember name.
-
- If you are asked to enter the domain or workgroup that your
- computer is part of, enter it also. If you don't have a domain
- or workgroup yet, make up a name for one and enter it.
-
- 11. Follow the directions on your screen. Eventually NT will
- ask if you want to restart your computer. Answer Yes.
-
- 12. After your computer restarts, enter your username and password.
- When the NT desktop appears, double-click on Network
- Neighborhood. You should be able to see and access your network.
-
- The installation is complete.
