  1.                     PCBoard v14.5 installation instructions
  2.                     =======================================

  4. The INSTALL program can be used to either install a brand new copy of PCBoard
  5. or to upgrade an existing PCBoard v14.x installation to v14.5.
  6.  
  7. You may install the software using either of two methods:
  8.  
  9. 1) Using PCBoard distribution disks:
  10.  
  11.    Run the INSTALL program on the first disk.
  12.  
  13. 2) Copy all of the PCBoard files into a subdirectory on your hard disk or
  14.    your network server's hard disk.
  15.  
  16.    Run the INSTALL program from there.
  17.  
  18. For a list of features that are new in going from PCBoard v14.2 to v14.5
  19. please read the file entitled FEATURES.NEW which can be found on disk #3.
  20.  
  21. A special version of PCBoard called the "VROOM Overlay" version which
  22. utilizes Borland International's VROOM technology is available on the
  23. Salt Air BBS.  The major difference between it and what is found on these
  24. distribution diskettes is that the "VROOM Overlay" version requires about
  25. 80K less memory to operate and can be configured to use even less.

  27. The following information is in addition to what is found in your printed
  28. manual:
  29.  
  30. - Added /NOPROMOTE to the SET PCB= environment.  It can be used for
  31.   those who do not wish to allow the new "auto promote" to batch
  32.   file transfer capability in v14.5.  (i.e. with /NOPROMOTE the "D" and
  33.   "U" commands will default to SINGLE FILE entry).

  35. - On disk #3 you will find a file called 10DAT142.ZIP which is a ZIP
  36.   (compressed file) containing instructions and a couple of programs
  37.   graciously donated by Gary Meeker to convert PCBoard v10.0 setups
  38.   to the version 14.2 format.  After running the program it should be
  39.   a simple matter of running the INSTALL program on these disks to
  40.   convert from v14.2 to v14.5.

  42. - Disk #4 contains a file called PCBCONV.DOC which describes the
  43.   conversion process from v11.x and v12.x systems up to the v14.x
  44.   formats.  In same cases it may actually be easier to set up a
  45.   brand new v14.5 system and move your v11.x or v12.x users across.
