- Installing ATF II onto a hard drive
- -----------------------------------
-
- A hard drive installation batch file is provided on the ATF II release disc.
-
- Please note that when ATF II has been installed onto a hard drive, the
- original floppy disc must be inserted before running the program.
-
- Keyboard shortcuts
- ------------------
-
- If you do not possess a mouse then you may prefer to use these keyboard
- shortcuts to move around the ATF II support screens and dialogue boxes.
-
- In general, the function keys are used to select options, the space key
- is used to select default options and the ESCape key is used to exit a
- screen or to close a dialogue box.
-
- The numeric keypad cursor keys can be used to move the mouse pointer around
- the screen. You can use the shift key to accelerate the mouse pointer
- movement. Keys 7 and 9 on the numeric keypad can be used as the mouse left
- and right buttons respectively. The ENTER key can also be used as the mouse
- left button.
-
- Security table
- --------------
-
- Please note that the security table is on the inside front cover of the
- manual and not at the back of the manual as stated.
-
- Aborting the game
- -----------------
-
- Hitting the ESCape key in the "control room" (ie. balance of power, briefing,
- weapons loading and debrief) will return you to the "security room".
-
- Hitting CTRL-ESCape during flight will also abort the game.
-
- Return to DOS
- -------------
-
- Hitting the ESCape key in the "security room" will give you a "return to DOS"
- dialogue box. Hit F1 to return to DOS.
-
- A few gameplay hints and tips
- -----------------------------
-
- Autoland
- --------
-
- The optimum distance to switch on the autoland is 75 - 100 units from the
- airfield.
-
- When the autoland reminds you to lower the undercarriage, make sure that
- doing this will not cause the ATF to stall. If the ATF is limping home
- lower the undercarriage as the ATF crosses the runway threshold!
-
- Vectored Thrust and Barrel Roll
- -------------------------------
-
- Using the vectored thrust to shake off rear attacking interceptors is
- about 50% effective. Using the vectored thrust in conjunction with the
- barrel roll is about 75% effective.
-
- Note that as the ATF accumulates damage and the maximum speed is reduced,
- the vectored thrust becomes less effective.
-
- On the higher skill levels use the barrel roll to dodge all enemy fire
- in order to prolong the mission!
-
- Targets
- -------
-
- Go for enemy mobile forces and factories.
-
- Sometimes it takes more than one Maverick missile to destroy a target.
-
- If you overshoot a target then travel about 20 units from the target
- before turning to make your approach. Otherwise you will fly in circles
- around the target and not get a lock.
-
- Maps
- ----
-
- Diagrams of all the maps are included in the manual. Sometimes it is
- helpful to make a rough sketch of the map you are playing on and to make
- notes of the enemy positions and your flight plan etc.
