  2.                     INFORMATION REGARDING TOSHIBA PRINTERS
  3. ================================================================================

  5. You have selected one of the following printers:
  6.  
  7.    Toshiba P351SX       Toshiba P341e        Toshiba P321SLC
  8.    Toshiba P351C        Toshiba P341         Toshiba P1350
  9.    Toshiba P351         Toshiba P321SL       Toshiba P1351
  10.    Toshiba P341SL       Toshiba P321         Toshiba P1340

  12. Your printer has been installed; however, it has not yet been
  13. configured properly.  To properly configure your printer, use
  14. the Control  Panel.   For information on how to do this,  see
  15. "Configuring Your System" in Chapter 7, "Using Control Panel",
  16. of the Microsoft Windows User's Guide. Be sure to properly set
  17. up your communications port.
  18.  
  19. The Toshiba Dot Matrix driver;
  20.  
  21.     -  supports 12 printer models
  22.     -  supports four resolutions
  23.     -  dithers and mixes colors
  24.  
  25. You can install the Toshiba driver as a through the Windows Setup 
  26. program or the Control Panel.  For more information on installing 
  27. a printer, see the section "Adding a New Printer" in the chapter 
  28. "Using the Control Panel" in the Windows User's Guide.  Note, the 
  29. file TOSH24.FIF is not installed by the Control Panel. If you use 
  30. downloadable or card fonts, you must copy this file into the same 
  31. directory where you installed the driver.

  33. Note: To ensure higher quality output, turn on the "3 Pass
  34. Graph" option, available on certain models. For more
  35. information, see the Toshiba User's Manual or contact Toshiba.

  37. USING THE MENUS
  38.  
  39.  
  40. Model Menu: Choosing a printer
  41.  
  42. When you select a model, the driver sets the options to the
  43. defaults for that printer model. A check mark reflects the
  44. latest choice made in the Model menu and the printer name
  45. appears in the title bar. 
  46.  
  47.  
  48. Paper Menu: Select paper size
  49.  
  50. The Paper menu lets you conveniently select paper size, and
  51. lets you switch between English and metric units.
  52.  
  53. The Toshiba printer driver supports 9 standard paper sizes and
  54. 2 standard envelope sizes:
  55.  
  56. -  Letter (8.5 x 11 in.)
  57. -  Legal  (8.5 x 14 in.)
  58. -  Ledger (11 x 17 in.)
  59. -  Statement (5.5 x 8.5 in.)
  60. -  A5 (148 x 210 mm)
  61. -  A4 (210 x 297 mm)
  62. -  A3 (297 x 420 mm)
  63. -  B5 (182 x 257 mm)
  64. -  B4 (257 x 364 mm)
  65. -  Envelope (3.5 x 6.5 in.)
  66. -  Envelope (4.0 x 9.5 in.)

  68. All paper sizes are available for each device. The Page area
  69. reflects the selected paper size.

  72. Quality Menu: Choosing a Resolution
  73.  
  74. The Quality menu lists the resolution options the Toshiba
  75. printer driver supports. They include:
  76.  
  77. -  180(V) x 180(H) dpi
  78. -  180(V) x 360(H) dpi
  79. -  360(V) x 180(H) dpi
  80. -  360(V) x 360(H) dpi
  81.  
  82. The resolutions available depend on the selected model.
  83.  
  84.  
  85. Foreground Menu: Choosing Colors
  86.  
  87. The Foreground menu lists the available printer ribbon 
  88. colors.  The Foreground menu is only available when you 
  89. choose monochrome print type with models that support 
  90. color.
  91.  
  92.  
  93. Options Menu: Choosing Fonts
  94.  
  95. The Options menu lets you choose resident, card, downloadable, 
  96. and cartridge fonts.  The font options available depend on 
  97. the selected model.
  98.  
  99. When you choose one of the fonts commands, a dialog box appears. 
  100. The Resident Fonts dialog box displays the fonts available on
  101. the selected device. You can leave the highlighted fonts
  102. selected, or you can choose an individual font. Then choose Ok
  103. to implement your choice or Cancel to return to the main dialog
  104. box.

  106. The Card Fonts dialog box displays two card positions, and the
  107. available card fonts. Choose a card slot (either A or B), then
  108. choose a font. Choose Ok to implement your choice, or Cancel to
  109. return to the main dialog box.

  111. Note: For more information about card fonts, see the Toshiba
  112. User's Manual or contact Toshiba.
  113.  
  114. The Downloadable Fonts dialog box displays two font positions
  115. (1 and 2), and the available fonts. You can select only two
  116. downloadable fonts. Choose the drive and directory where the
  117. downloadable fonts are installed, and then choose Ok to display
  118. the fonts. Choose a font position and choose the font to
  119. download. If you want to save the current path as the default,
  120. choose the Save option. Then choose Ok.

  122. Downloadable fonts are downloaded to the printer when needed.
  123. After the fonts are downloaded, the Download check box is
  124. "unchecked" so the fonts are not repeatedly downloaded for each
  125. document printed. If the printer is turned off, recheck the
  126. Download check box to reload the selected downloadable fonts.

  128. If text in a document uses a downloadable font that is not
  129. selected in the Downloadable Fonts dialog box, the font is
  130. automatically downloaded when the document is printed, provided
  131. one of the two font positions is vacant. If a downloadable font
  132. position is not available, the text is printed using the
  133. closest available device font. For more information about
  134. downloadable fonts, see the Toshiba User's Manual or contact
  135. Toshiba.

  137. Note: For models with configurable RAM, these are the
  138. configuration settings: RAM ALOC=DLL, and Buffer Size=2K. For
  139. more information, see the Toshiba User's Manual or contact
  140. Toshiba.
  141.  
  142. The Cartridge Fonts dialog box displays the fonts available on
  143. cartridge. You must select the name of the cartridge currently
  144. in the printer, then choose Ok to implement your choice, or
  145. Cancel to return to the main dialog box.
  146.  
  147. You can select either the USA or IBM 2 character set in the
  148. Options menu, if your model supports it. Selecting the IBM 2
  149. character set allows you to access more European characters
  150. than are available in the standard USA character set. The IBM 2
  151. character set has decimal codes above 127. You enter a code in
  152. the Windows application by pressing alt and typing the decimal
  153. code on the numeric keypad. See the Toshiba printer manual for
  154. a listing of the IBM 2 character set.
  155.  
  156. Note: Make sure the printer setting matches the setting in the
  157. Options menu.

  160. CHOOSING OPTIONS
  161.  
  162. Page:
  163.  
  164. You can choose portrait or landscape orientation. In portrait
  165. mode, the page is printed with the same orientation as the
  166. image displayed on the screen. In landscape mode, the page is
  167. printed with the image rotated 90 degrees clockwise.
  168.  
  169. The Toshiba printer driver supports widths from 1 to 13.5
  170. inches for wide carriages, and widths from 1 to 8.5 inches for
  171. narrow carriages. It also supports heights from 1 to 88 inches.
  172. Use the scroll arrows in the Page option box, or type a new
  173. number in the text box, to change the page width or height.
  174.  
  175. Note: Page width is restricted to 10 inches in color mode at a
  176. resolution of 360(V) x 360(H) dpi.  You can change to the Metric 
  177. option by choosing one of the five Metric sizes in the Paper menu.

  179. The Auto Form Feed option causes a form feed command to be
  180. issued to the printer after each page.
  181.  
  182.  
  183. Print:
  184.  
  185. The print modes are color and monochrome.  The print modes 
  186. available depend on the selected model. The monochrome option 
  187. lets you choose the printer ribbon color if the model chosen 
  188. supports color output. The color option lets you print text and 
  189. graphics as displayed on a color monitor.  If a model does not 
  190. support color printing, the color option is disabled.

  193. Paper Source:
  194.  
  195. The Paper Source list box displays the available methods for
  196. loading paper. The available paper sources depend on the
  197. selected device. Use the scroll arrows to scroll through the
  198. available paper sources. Highlight the source you want to use.
  199.

  201. Solid Fills:
  202.  
  203. The Solid Fills option allows you to select the density of
  204. solid fills. When you choose the darkest option (Dark), solid
  205. fills print approximately four times as dark as the lightest
  206. option (Pale). The default is Light.
  207.  
  208. Note: Dark is not available at a resolution of 180(V) x 180(H)
  209. dpi.

  211. After you choose all the options you want, you can
