  5. Q:  How should I configure QEMM-386 or DESQview 386 to run on my 
  6.     Toshiba 5100 (or 5200)?

  9. QEMM-386 can be used as an expanded memory manager on the Toshiba 
  10. 5100, but normally requires some changes in the default 
  11. configuration of the Toshiba.
  12.  
  13. Under the default configuration, the Toshiba 5100 does not have 
  14. any extended memory, but actually has expanded memory hardware 
  15. and an expanded memory driver.  Under the default Toshiba setup, 
  16. QEMM will either not see any extended memory to map and refuse to 
  17. load, or will not work properly.
  18.  
  19. To set the machine up properly, you need to run the Toshiba Setup 
  20. utility and configure 640K of base memory and all of the rest of 
  21. the memory as extended memory.  There should be no expanded 
  22. memory configured.

  24. Once the hardware has been set up to see all of the memory above 
  25. 640K as extended memory, you should edit the CONFIG.SYS file on 
  26. the machine and remove the expanded memory driver if one is being 
  27. loaded.  We believe this file is called EMM.SYS, but you may want 
  28. to consult your Toshiba manual to be sure.

  30. After the expanded memory driver has been removed, you may run 
  31. the QEMMINST program to install QEMM and QEMM should be able to 
  32. operate properly on the machine for DESQview and other programs
  33. that might require EMS 4.0 memory.
