  22.        This 'elite' BBS distributes software for the sole purpose of
  23.   testing it prior to purchase.  You've 24 hours to try the software
  24.   and determine that it is worth  purchasing, then you must  destroy
  25.   it.    The  BBS Sysop feels  that it is  unfair to  computer  users
  26.   that they are unable to evaluate software to see if it suits their
  27.   needs.  Many    users have purchased products by the way the program
  28.   'looks' on the box and have been extremely disappointed - and have
  29.   therefore wasted their money and (more important) time.  Nobody in
  30.   their right  mind would purchase a  car  without  test  driving it
  31.   first,  or  for  that  matter...purchase  clothes  without  trying
  32.   them    on, so how  can  software  vendors  expect users to  buy one
  33.   of their products without first testing it?  They will send copies
  34.   of their software to large corporations to test but seem to forget
  35.   there are also other users in the market willing to purchase their
  36.   product if it meets their needs.   This is where this checkout BBS
  37.   comes in.   This program is for evaluation only,  if you like this
  38.   product  then  go  to  your  local computer store and purchase it,
  39.   otherwise PLEASE do not USE or in anyway DISTRIBUTE this  product!
  40.   There are many advantages to purchasing this product including:

  42.   1) Technical Support: Software vendors set  up  technical  support
  43.             lines  for  the  purpose  of  helping  their
  44.             registered users get the  most    out  of  the
  45.             product and help with any bug concerns, etc.
  46.             It is to your advantage to be  able  to  use
  47.             this (and the many features of the program).

  49.   2) Manuals:        Manuals are  a    very  important  part  of  a
  50.             software package.  No book  or text file can
  51.             replace the  original  manuals,  which    come
  52.             with the product. This enables    the  user to
  53.             get the most out of the package,  especially
  54.             with the very complex programs of today.

  56.   3) Upgrades:        With  buying  the  original program, you are
  57.             entitled  to  low priced or free upgrades to
  58.             new versions, bug fixes, and 'enhancements'.

  60.   4) Legality:        Using a program  without owning a registered
  61.             copy is illegal.

  63.   5) Control Of The    When  companies  who  create  good  products
  64.      Industry:        are  supported,  it  reinforces the need for
  65.             good products and helps the company continue
  66.             to create more    quality  products.   On  the
  67.             other hand, companies who create substandard
  68.             products have  two  options; either  improve
  69.             their products or get out of the industry.

  71.   Until  companies come up with a better  way  of  allowing  users  to
  72.   test their products before purchasing, 'checkout' BBSs will continue
  73.   to make available products  for  your  testing.  Companies  recently
  74.   have started to head in this    direction and you can now return  some
  75.   products  to    the  company  if  you  are  not  completely  satisfied
  76.   (Norton, and a few others), but this does not remedy    the  situation
  77.   as the refund/credit takes a long time to get processed and is a BIG
  78.   hassle!   We feel that under the current software industry standards
  79.   of doing business, that evaluating software releases prior to actual
  80.   purchase is still the best solution.
