- This is not ShareWare, Nagware, or CrippleWare. It is actually something
- called StarvingStudentWare(tm). This program may be freely distributed, but
- anyone who wishes can donate five dollars to me (the Starving Student) for
- my dorm fees by mailing to the following address..
-
- C. R. Cochems
- 27593 East 12th Street
- Hayward, CA 94544.
-
- Of course, there is no law stating that you cannot donate more! :)
-
- If you haven't read README.1ST yet, DO IT NOW!!!!! Got it?
-
- Now that you have read that file, and have properly configured the program,
- just type mpegshow to start it. Don't type vmmenu, type mpegshow. If you do
- get it into your head to type vmmenu instead of mpegshow, the program will
- KNOW. It's psychic.. (well not really, but it does a good job of faking!)
- It will not run unless you start it from the batch file! Also, the program
- doesn't like it when people change it's filename. Mpegshow.bat must REMAIN
- mpegshow.bat, and if you try to rename it to something shorter like m, the
- program will complain to you immediately, and refuse to run until you rename
- it back! Also, be sure that all the needed files are actually there!
-
- This program is actually a shell for VMPEG, which I did not write. Because
- I am such a nice person, I am including this program here so you don't have
- to run out and download it. The author may not be too happy, but I included
- his original docfile. The files there won't be the same, but it works, trust
- me. I will contact the author, and apologize for this..
-
- In any case, all you need to know is that when you type mpegshow.bat you get
- a nice menu!
-
- To use this menu, simply cursor to the mpeg you want to view, and press
- return. Simple. To toggle the command line options for vmpeg as of this
- version, simply press the appropriate letter! It doesn't even matter if caps
- lock is on or not. tHE PROGRAM DOESN'T CARE IF YOU TYPE LIKE THIS BECAUSE
- YOUR CAPS-LOCK KEY IS BROKEN! I won't explain the options here because the
- author of vmpeg does such a good job in his doc file, vmpeg.doc. The status
- box at the bottom tells you the keys to togle options with. The program
- actually remembers how you set your options, so you don't have to reset them
- each time! Directories show up in green instead of yellow. However, there
- is a really annoying bug in Turbo Pascal 4.0 that won't let me scan for
- directories and not files. Therefore, when doing my directory scan, I put in
- a check for zero file size as well. This eliminates most files, but if you
- have a zero byte file with no extension, the program will be forced to
- conclude that it is a directory. So, delete any zero byte files on your
- system if you can help it. Don't bitch at me for this, complain to Borland.
-
- You can even change drives with this program. If you don't see any files
- when changing to a floppy drive, then it's probably either because the disk
- in the drive is missing, or there are no mpegs on the disk. In either case,
- don't worry, the program will remember where you were on the drive you were
- on previously, and if you change back, it will return to the directory you
- were in. Isn't that nice of it? (actually, you can thank DOS for that!)
- This program will create the files path.cfg and path2.cfg when run. This is
- so it can work it's magic and go back to the directory you were in when you
- show a picture. Again, it's wonderful little DOS at work. DOS is cool. It
- also stores the options you set in a third little teensy tiny config file.
- This program won't spread files all over your hard drive like my previous
- work could. (Yaayyyy!) Contrary to earlier thought, you don't need to put
- anything in your path to run this program.
-
- This program will not crash if you have 85 or more total directories and files
- in one directory. However, it will act strangely, and not show all the files
- properly. The whole reason you can change directories is so you don't have
- to put all your files in the same place. Besides, how can someone even FIT
- 85 .MPG files on anything less than a 250 meg hard drive anyway? (I know, I
- know, take everything else off...) In any case, take advantage of the
- directory/drive changing capabilities of this program (but don't go putting
- 85 subdirectories either..)
