This is a test letter for the "MAILMERGE" programme. The text is put into this section and the mailmerge routine adds the names and addresses of the required selection, the date, and the letter head if required. All you have to do is enter the text of the letter from BELOW the "Dear ...." and all the rest will be done by the Mailmerge routine. It will decide whether to use the first name of the person to whom the letter is addressed or simply call him Mr. Smith etc. If you are writing to a company and do not have a name to address the letter to, then the programme will enter "Dear Sir".
When you enter the text of the letter, do not press RTN at the end of each line. The text will automatically wrap round to the next line as you type. Only press RTN when you reach the end of a paragraph. As you can see, if you view this letter via the Letter Writer, it is not very tidy. But do not despair. This will be corrected during printing as the Mailmerge programme fits these words to the paper that you are using and the type face and point size selected. You can check the spelling of your letter by pressing the Spell check button (full version only).
Another feature that you can use is the insertion of tokens into your text. These consist of 4 options:-
1. 'N' is replaced by the name of the person receiving the letter as it appears after the Dear ...
2. 'A' is replaced with the first line of his address.
3. 'T' is replaced with his Town.
4. 'C' is replaced with his Company name.
These TOKENS must be enclosed by 'less than' and 'greater than' signs as follows:-
<N> <C>, <A>, <T>. These will appear in a mail merged letter as name, Company name, address and town. To see what they actually look like in the original text file you must view this letter using the Letter Writer.
The point size is preset to an acceptable value, but this and the font can be changed using the FONT buttons on the CONTROL PANEL.
You can set a different font and size for the Company name, the address and the body of the text.
The letter writer also deals with the justification of the text etc. and produces a well laid out letter that you can be proud of. Even the address appears at a position that will show through the window of a window envelope.
I hope you find this programme useful, I know I do.
