  4. What is WebReaper?
  5. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  7. WebReaper is web crawler or spider, which can work its way through 
  8. a website, downloading pages, pictures and objects that it finds so
  9. that they can be viewed locally, without needing to be connected to
  10. the internet. The sites can be saved locally as a fully-browsable 
  11. website which can be viewed with any browser (such as Internet 
  12. Explorer, Netscape, Opera, etc), or they can be saved into the 
  13. Internet Explorer cache and viewed using IE's offline mode as if 
  14. the you'd surfed the sites 'by hand'.

  16. To use WebReaper, simply enter a starting URL, and hit the Go 
  17. button. The program will then download the page at that URL, 
  18. parsing the HTML as it goes, looking for links to other pages and 
  19. objects. It will then extract this list of sub-links and download 
  20. them. This process continues recursively until either no more links 
  21. fulfil WebReaper's filter criteria or your hard disk becomes full - 
  22. which ever happens first!

  24. The locally saved files will have their HTML links adjusted so that
  25. they can be browsed as if they were being read directly from the 
  26. internet.

  28. The download is fully configurable - custom hierarchical filters 
  29. can be constructed from 12 different filter types to allow targetted 
  30. downloads. Simple filters can be built using the Filter Wizard, or 
  31. more complex ones can be hand-crafted.

  33. Installation

  35. The software runs on either Windows 95 & 98, NT 4 and Windows 2000. You must 
  36. also have Internet Explorer v4 or higer installed. Simply run the webreaper.exe 
  37. installation program and follow the on-screen instructions to install WebReaper. 
  38. The program has an uninstall option so can be removed simply and quickly.

  42. WebReaper is 100% Y2K compliant.

  44. How Much Does It Cost?
  45. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  46. WebReaper is Freeware for non-commercial use. You may use the 
  47. fully functional application for as long as you like, without 
  48. restriction, and with support from myself.

  50. However, if you like WebReaper, find it useful, or use it in 
  51. a commercial environment, please register your copy, giving 
  52. you peace-of-mind, safe in the knowledge that you've c
  53. ontributed to the development of the application.

  55. Registration costs just $40, and can be done from within the 
  56. application (within the About dialog box, under the Help 
  57. menu), using a secure credit-card payment system.

  61. This software is released as FREEWARE for non-commercial use, but it 
  62. may not be sold or be included in a product or package which intends to 
  63. receive benefits through the inclusion of this software. This software may 
  64. be distributed freely over the Internet as long as the file(s) remain 
  65. unmodified. This software may not be included on CD-ROMs without prior 
  66. permission from the author. Commercial users should register their copy 
  67. for $40 using the online secure credit-card payment system on the 'About' 
  68. box.
