- Introduction
-
- Sub Attack is based on the old "shoot the ships" arcade game. The idea is
- that you have to launch your torpedo at the correct time so that the torpedo
- meets the ship as they both travel across the screen. The concept is simple
- (I'm sure that you've seen it before...).
-
- This documentation file is used both for the registered and shareware versions
- of Sub Attack. Differences are detailed (where appropriate).
-
- The controls
-
- Sub Attack is controlled using the mouse. The left button fires the torpedo.
- The catch here is that you only have one torpedo on the screen at any one
- time. The right mouse button brings up another screen which explains the
- scoring and has buttons for selecting the "about", "credits", "high score"
- and "help" screens.
-
- Scoring
-
- Points are awarded for destroying ships (what else?). There are four types
- of ship, each travelling at a different speed. The faster the ship, the more
- points you get. After you destroy 20 ships, you move to the next level.
- Ships are launched more frequently on progressive levels. If you miss 20
- ships, the game ends.
-
-
- Version 1.10
-
- Version 1.10 has some enhancements and bug fixes included. The main difference
- is support for NTSC machines for my US friends (Hi folks, I told you it would
- happen eventually!).
-
- There are a few other small changes (bug fixes? who said bug fixes?), and I'll
- let you find them for yourself. The playing screens used on both NTSC and PAL
- systems are identical, with the exception that the NTSC machines will have
- less sky (it's only there for decoration anyway). The menu screen has changed
- slightly, as I've moved the buttons up so they can be seen on an NTSC screen.
-
- I hope you like version 1.10!!!!
-
-
- The Shareware Stuff
-
- The registered version of Sub Attack differs from the Shareware version in a
- number of ways:
-
- - The registered version allows you to play another game without clicking
- on the icon again (a requestor comes up whenever a game finishes).
-
- - Registered versions are registered to specific people, and these people
- have support for the software. In other words, I'll try and fix and bugs
- that are found. I'll also send registered users Version 2 (when I complete
- it). Version 1.10 (and NTSC support) comes as a direct result of user
- feedback. If you have any other ideas, then let me know!!!!
-
- - The shareware version is not supported. Bug fixes and enhancements will be
- supplied to registered users only.
-
- - The registered version doesn't have the annoying shareware message which
- pops up on a random basis.
-
-
- Registration Details
-
- To make registration easier, you can send money in your own local currency
- (cash please!). The amounts are listed in the table below.
-
- To register for Sub Attack, please send the appropriate amount to:
-
- Perry Rosenboom

- Wantirna South
- Victoria, 3152
- Australia
-
-
- Country Registration

- New Zealand $15.00
- USA $10.00
- England £5.00

- a little difficult because our dollar goes up and down like a yo-yo! If your

- me!
-
-
- Thanks and previous registrations
-
- In version 1.00 I said that I'd thank people who wrote to me or registered,
- so here it is!
-
- Thanks to Bill Spring (Frankfurt, Germany) who sent me a letter before I even
- knew that Fred Fish had released the original version of SubAttack! on disk 554.
-
- Thanks also to Stan Kendall (Barrington IL, USA). Stan very kindly took the
- trouble to send me some photos of my game running on an NTSC machine. Here it
- is Stan!!!!
-
- Thanks to the following people who registered for Version 1.0, and who will
- have received registered versions of Sub Attack 1.10 before the shareware
- version is released (yes - you do have some privileges when you register!)
-
- Bill Spring - Frankfurt, Germany
- Stan Kendall - Barrington, IL, USA
- Mauricio Telleria - Edmonton, Canada
- The Humphries Family - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA
-
- A big "thank you" to Fred Fish!
-
-
- Distribution of Sub Attack and
- other boring terms and conditions
-
- The SHAREWARE Version of Sub Attack may be freely distributed, providing this
- documentation file accompanies the game. Neither the Game or this
- documentation may be altered in any way without the Author's written
- permission. No more than a reasonable fee for copying and distribution should
- be charged for the Shareware Version of Sub Attack.
-
- Registered Versions of Sub Attack are provided only to the registered user
- and are not to be copied or distributed under any circumstances, unless prior
- permission has been provided in writing by the Author (after all, a great deal
- of time has gone into writing this game).
-
- Both the title screen and the "About" screen clearly display whether the
- version of the game you are playing is shareware or registered.
-
-
- High Scores
-
- At the time of writing this documentation, my high score was 10340 (Level 12).
- Let me know if you can do better, and I'll put a high score list in the next
- version of the documentation.
-
-
- End bit
-
- Well, that's it. There is not much more I can say about "Sub Attack", except
- that I hope you enjoy it.
-
- "Sub Attack" was proudly written in AMOS, © Europress
- and compiled using the AMOS compiler (Thanks Francois!).
-
-
- Special thanks to Andy K and all those who register (I'll name you in the next
- release!).
-
- Sub Attack is © 1991, 1992 by Perry Rosenboom. The ships used in Sub Attack
- are based on the sprites supplied with AMOS.
