  23. SoftLock© has been tested on a AMIGA 500 under 1.3 and on a AMIGA 2000 under 
  24. both 1.3 and 2.04.

  27. Installation:

  30. Copy SoftLock to the c: directory of your HD.  From a CLI window execute
  31. SoftLock.  Since this is the first time you have executed the program, you 
  32. will need to enter the REAR_DOOR password SHAREWARE.  You will be prompted  
  33. to enter a user password twice.  The user password must be between 5 and 15 
  34. alphanumeric (a-z & 0-9) characters.  When you finish creating the user 
  35. password the program will end. The password is encoded and is secure from 
  36. prying eyes. Re-run SoftLock now you will be prompted to change your password,
  37. change it or quit.  You now know that SoftLock© runs on you system and you 
  38. may be a little more comfortable with it.  Now continue with the installation.

  41. Startup-Sequence for AmigaDos Release 2 :

  44. In your "S" directory edit Startup-sequence, adding c:Softlock right after
  45. "c:setpatch >NIL:" and "c:version >NIL:" which will make it the third item.

  51. In your "S" directory edit startup-sequence, adding c:Softlock right after
  52. "c:SetPatch >NIL: r ;patch system functions" which should make it the 
  53. second item.

  59. Once you have completed the installation of SoftLock© warm boot the system. 
  60.  
  61. You will be prompted to enter a user password.  When you finish, startup will
  62. continue.                                                                          
  63.                 
  64. Running SoftLock© from a CLI allows you can change the user password anytime 
  65. if you know the old password or the REAR_DOOR password. 
  66.  
  67. Every time the system is booted the user will be prompted for the user
  68. password (although the REAR_DOOR password can be entered).  The user will
  69. only have three chances to enter the correct password.  If the user makes 3
  70. invalid attempts, the program goes into a loop and the only way out is to
  71. reboot.

  73. SoftLock© will needs to write on the HD and prompt the user if the sys: disk
  74. is write protected.  If the user doesn't correct the trouble, it's loop time.
  75.  
  76. Every access attempt that fails for any reason has the date and time recorded.
  77.     
  78. Once the user gives the correct password, the program checks if any previous
  79. access's have been denied, if so the date and time will be displayed to the
  80. user.  So whenever an authorized user boots up, they will be notified of any
  81. unauthorized access attempts.

  87. Total security is not possible, but this program can keep most people out.
  88. The computer illiterate and the computer novice will be able to break into 
  89. your system.  Only the advance HACKER might sooner or later break in.

  91. The key to the SoftLock© Security System is that it is executed from your 
  92. startup-sequence as instructed above.
