-
- Background
- ----------
- Edd Schiester was an ordinary type of guy, if it wasn`t perhaps for
- the blackouts he suffered from, which from when we awoke found that
- all living tissue in the nearby vicinity had been murdered brutally
- (Edd put it down to some strange alien virus, which had a different
- effect from him than to any one else. According to his theory this
- virus only attacked people who didn`t wear green, and caused them to
- spontaneously combust, while it made him just sleepy. Hmmm...)
- Anyway, Edd was coming back from party, which as it happens
- he fell asleep and later awoke to find himself in his car and the
- house the partry had taken place in completely gutted by fire, and
- whilst driving along a empty dark road sudenly had an urge to relieve
- himself. Edd hastily parked the car by the roadside, and went behind
- a tree, moments later he catched a glimpse of light off into the
- distance, and his tired ears could hear chanting coming from the same
- direction. He was intrigued, and heading off into the direction
- of this noise.
- 5 minutes later Edd was at the edge of a clearing, witnessing
- a bizzare Satanic ritual, shocked at what he saw, Edd stumbled into
- the night, trying to get back to his car, but the day had been long,
- and his mind was fuzzy, he got lost.
- Edd plunged full pelt into a hole in the ground, covered by
- dark and leaves, he hit his head on impact and blacked out (uh-oh)....
- Upon awakeing, Edd discovered he was in a bizarre underground
- network of tunnels and caves, looking although it had been constructed
- by warped minds. This place was NOT fun, and Edd decided that he
- had to get out, but how? Perhaps there was an exit, perhaps....

- Instructions
- ------------
- This game was inspired by the most excellent Lucasfilm games "ZaK
- McKracken" and "Secret of Monkey Island(tm)", and so the control
- system is very similar. Those of you who have played any of these
- games will find the control system very familiar.
- For the person who hasn`t played any of the above, here
- is a description of how you go about controlling Edd Schiester;
-
- The screen is split up into 2. The top half represents Edd and his
- current location, whats in it etc. The bottom houses the control
- panel with which you can issue commands, it is this that I will explain
- first.
- There are a number of commands, such as "Walk to", "Examine",
- which can be issued. To select a command, click on the box to the
- left of it, your selection is confirmed with an appropriate message.
- Most commands are directed to an object, to select an object, you can
- either look at your current location on the top half of the screen
- and move the mouse around, and objects under the mouse pointer are
- high-lighted. To select that object, and effectibely complete a command
- click on that object. The command will now be carried out. OR you
- can select an object from your inventory (what you are carrying). The
- inventory is to the right of the commands, you can move up and down to
- inventory to scroll through the contents by pressing the up and
- down arrows with the mouse, and select an object by clicking on the name.
- Some commands are done on 2 objects, such as "Give", "Use", in
- such cases, 2 objects must be selected consecutively. Edd can move around
- the scenery by selecting "Walk to" and then clicking anywhere around
- the current location, to move to another location, click on one of the
- doors with the "Walk to" command selected.

- Hints
- -----
- Remember this game was designed by 2 completely deranged students,
- so anything could happen. Some things that seem logical in the real
- world, have no bearing in the world created here. Keep a map, make
- a note of everything, and keep at it.
- This disk is protected, so no rummaging around the source!

- Comment about AMOS
- ------------------
-
- This package has been raved about by the media since the day its`
- predecessor STOS came out. Now that I have used it, I have a few
- bones to pick to pick with a few poeple.
- Escape from a large cave uses a lot of code, and now and
- again I noticed that AMOS tripped up now and again. Have you tried
- to do something in the game, and it crashed? Well try it again, and
- you will find it is OK. This is nothing to do with my programming,
- but the dodgyness of AMOS. AMOS also trashed my source code for no
- reason TWICE.
- Is this the way a professional programming language should
- work? I think not.
- Grumble over.
-
- The rubbish that no one (except sad people) ever reads
- ------------------------------------------------------
- Escape from a large cave took approximately 3 months to complete,
- during this time we used;
-
- Tat: AMOS V1.34, Deluxe Paint, Climate, TXEd, Disk Master, tonnes
- of paper
- Dave: Soundtracker, Technosound
-
- and, we also listened to:-
-
- Tat: Guns `N` f` roses, Joe Satriani, Faith No More, Steve Vai,
- Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Shakey`s sister, Ugly Kid Joe.
- Extreme.
-
- Dave: Probably the same as me, because he borrows all my stuff. Then
- again he does listen to "pop" music, and he didn`t even like "Angel
- Dust", after I gave subtle hints for him to buy it.

- Since this is the last Amiga thing I`ll do for a long time, I`d just
- like to say the following things to the folowing poeple (some of whom
- I haven`t spoken to for ages, maybe years)
-
- Martyn Brown (Team 17) - Hello, where`s that superfrog game you
- were talking about, any chance of a free copy????? Catherine Zeta
- Jones is nice isn`t she... NOT!
-
- Zep freak - I don`t know who you are, but thanks for the postcard
- of Brummie Town Hall. Couldn`t read your signature. Long live
- Zep! Oh yeah, if you want a copy of my Led Zep demo, then send some
- money to 17 Bit (disk 1066) or any of the United PD distributers
- (disk PM096), advertisement ends.
- When is Pagey and Coverdale going to release that album?
-
- Amiga Format - Hello, #3.95 is very steep for a magazine, remember
- you are still only a magazine with a freebie on the front, and we
- can`t afford to shell out 20 quid on magazines every month. And where
- the hell is my binder? Since when does it take 28 days to put a
- stamp on a parcel and chuck it into the post?
- I see the Amiga Format specials cost #3.95 too, and there isn`t even
- a disk on the front. Just because you get away with it normally
- doesn`t mean you can do it more. More work involved? I think not,
- most of the stuff are just re-reviews, and I am sure if AF was still
- #2.95 then so would the specials be.
-
- Jamie Mcgregor - Oh *@, I think we got the wrong application form.
-
- Martin Foster (Leicester) - Hello, hope your life is good.
-
- Ben (Lancaster) - Long time no see, send some stuff.
-
- Phil (S.Wirral) - Well, well, still doing that megademo? By the time
- you finish megademos will be out of fashion (along with the ozone
- layer).
-
- Pob - Send me some of your H.R.Giger stuff.
-
- Nuno Bettencourt - I am completely flabberghasted, you used a
- digital delay on Flight of the bumble bee, you cheat! I wore my
- fingers away trying to play that fast.
-
- Dave Clegg (ex-17 Bit) - Hello you bastard, you should have finished
- college by now. Believe me, quit the rat race now, or you could
- end up like me.
-
- R.Vanner(Mandarin) - Thanks for not even bothering to evaluate this
- game. No wonder there are no commercial AMOS games.
-
- A-Chord author - Your program is good for beginners, but for fret
- baord sizzlers like me (ahem) it would be nice if there was some
- interactive lessons, and some theory stuff. Like Pentatonic,
- mixalodian, dorian, etc. And your samples didn`t sound very good.
-
- Blitterchips - wow! 3 days turn around, now that`s what I call
- service, I heartily recommend this PD place, apart from the wierd name.
-
- Special Reserve - You`ve lost my order haven`t you, you`ve cashed
- my cheque and not sent me my magnilight.
-
- SSi - Please, please please improve your disk routines, your games
- are great if it wasn`t for the fact I have to put the disks in the
- drive, 2 days before I want to play the game.
-
- Everyone - Hello, Mr/Mrs/Ms. Amiga owner. I hope you enjoy this
- game, and even when you come across the horrendous bugs, or the
- totally unplausable plot, just remember this; you could have bought
- Epic.
