  1.     INSTRUCTIONS

  3.  To begin a series of puzzles, select one of the menu items under the
  4.  Questions menu. The first position will start after you have made
  5.  your selection.
  6.  
  7.  There are a number of menu items you can select beforehand.
  8.  You can choose whether or not the answer will be displayed
  9.  (if you pass on that question).
  10.  
  11.  You can select a different time limit. When your time is up, the
  12.  puzzles end, regardless of whether you have finished the questions or not.
  13.  You can recreate a different competition time limit.
  14.  
  15.  In each position,you are told which player it is to move and you are to
  16.  find the best move in that position.
  17.  The player whose move it is will be playing up the board.
  18.  
  19.  After you have decided upon your move, click the left mouse button while
  20.  the mouse pointer is over the piece you want to move. Then press the left
  21.  mouse button on the square you want the piece to move to.

  23.  If your answer was correct, the word correct will be displayed and you will
  24.  score. If your answer was wrong, you may keep attempting the question until
  25.  you have the right answer. You may elect to pass on a question by clicking
  26.  in the Text or Score window.

  28.  You will only score if the first attempt was correct.
  29.  (Note you can only do this if the appropriate menu item is active).

  31.  After you have completed your move, you will need to click the left mouse
  32.  button once more. This will either introduce the next position or show the
  33.  reply to your move, to which you must reply again.

  35.  After you have attempted every question in a section, or your time runs out
  36.  (which ever happens first) you will be given an approximate performance
  37.  rating for that section.

  39.  If the score exceeds the current high score for that section,
  40.  the score will be saved to disk. You will also add a name of your choice.
  41.  This will keep a record of what sections you have attempted and give you a
  42.  target to beat.

  44.  After this, the program will start again. If you wish to leave the program
  45.  at any stage, just select quit from the pull-down menu.
