  1. ThinkPad Windows 95 Enhancement Diskette
  2.  
  3. Thank you for buying an IBM ThinkPad* computer. This upgrade will assist you in
  4. installing the Microsoft** Windows** 95 operating system.  To install Windows
  5. 95, certain control files and the system BIOS must be updated.  A Setup and
  6. BIOS update diskette have been included to make these updates.  During
  7. installation, your current operating system will be removed.  For this reason,
  8. IBM recommends that you use the Diskette Factory application to create recovery
  9. diskettes. In addition, you should back up all data files to disk before
  10. installing Windows 95 (i.e. word processor files, spreadsheets).  If you do
  11. not make backup disks, your data will be lost.
  12.  
  13. Note:  Your system must be set up to boot your DOS operating system for proper
  14.        operation of this upgrade.

  17. Upgrade Instruction
  18.  
  19. 1. Insert the ThinkPad Windows 95 Setup Diskette into drive A.
  20. 2. Restart your ThinkPad by turning the power "off" and then "on", or pressing
  21.    Ctrl+Alt+Del.
  22. 3. Select Option 1.  Follow the instructions on the screen careful.  (Menu
  23.    Option 1 will install Windows 95 on your system and make the changes
  24.    necessary for proper operation.)
  25. 4. Select Option 2 to view documentation on changes that will occur.
  26. 5. Select Option 3 to exit

  38. Changes made by Setup Diskette Program
  39.  
  40. System BIOS:  Before you install Windows 95, your system BIOS will need to be
  41. updated to ensure that Plug and Play will function properly.  It is possible
  42. that your system already has the required level of system BIOS.  In this case,
  43. you will get a message that your system does not need to be updated.  If this
  44. happens, continue as if the BIOS had been updated.

  46. ThinkPad Welcome Screens:  The ThinkPad Welcome Screens on the following
  47. ThinkPad systems may cause a "Windows 95 Explorer Fault."
  48.  
  49. - ThinkPad 755C/Cs
  50. - ThinkPad 360/355 Family
  51. - ThinkPad 755CE/CD
  52. - ThinkPad 340CSE
  53. - ThinkPad 370C
  54. - ThinkPad 701C
  55.  
  56. ThinkPad Welcome Screens will no longer be displayed automatically.  The
  57. programs are not being deleted, the instructions that call the screens are
  58. removed from your WIN.INI file.
  59.  
  60. Video device drivers:  Video device drivers are included in Windows 95 and are
  61. automatically installed by Windows 95 Setup program.  In addition to this
  62. driver, the setup disk will install the VESA video driver on the following
  63. systems.

  65. - ThinkPad 755C/Cs
  66. - ThinkPad 360/355 Family
  67. - ThinkPad 370
  68.  
  69. You will not need to install the Windows 3.1 video driver.
  70.  
  71. OS/2 Warp:  Windows 95 cannot be installed with OS/2 Warp.  Therefore, if you
  72. wish to continue installation of Windows 95, OS/2 will be removed from your
  73. system along with all preinstalled OS/2 applications.

  75. If you have not used the Diskette Factory application to create diskettes, you
  76. will have no way to reinstall DOS, Windows 3.1, or OS/2 Warp should you later
  77. choose to. PCMCIA device drivers :  Although Windows 95 comes with the
  78. integrated PCMCIA support, the installation program does not enable PCMCIA
  79. support automatically.  If you already have EasyPlaying/PC Card Director PCMCIA
  80. support installed in DOS/Windows, you can continue to use it.  However, the
  81. software will not work in conjunction with Windows 95 plug and play software.

  83. To enable Windows 95 PCMCIA support, open My Computer, open Control Panel,
  84. double click on PC Card (PCMCIA), then follow the on-screen instructions to
  85. complete the installation.

  87. This procedure will automatically disable the EasyPlaying/PC Card Director
  88. drivers by REMarking them out of your CONFIG.SYS file.
