  2. IBM THINKPAD 365X/560/760E PRELOAD REFERENCE CD-ROM (PC DOS/WINDOWS 3.11)

  5. ATTENTION:  The software contained on the diskette and the CD-ROM in
  6. this package is to be used only for installing the Preload Reference
  7. on an IBM ThinkPad 365X/560/760E.  Hardware or software damage might
  8. occur if the preinstalled version of the software is installed on other
  9. computers.
  10.  
  11. This Preload Reference (PC DOS/Windows 3.11) CD-ROM does not contain
  12. the applications that you received preinstalled with Windows95.
  13. If you wish to continue using these applications with PC DOS/Windows 3.11,
  14. you must build the application installation diskettes from Diskette
  15. Factory in the Windows95 preload prior to using this CD-ROM to
  16. destroy the Windows95 preload.  After using this CD-ROM to install
  17. the Preload Reference (PC DOS/Windows 3.11), you can use those
  18. diskettes to reinstall your applications.

  23. REQUIREMENTS:

  26. To use this CD to reload a hard drive, you MUST have the following:
  27.  
  28.   1.  IBM ThinkPad 365X/560/760E Preload Reference Boot Diskette
  29.  
  30.       If the diskette is not included in your package, you MUST create
  31.       it using the BUILDDSK program included on the CD.  You will need
  32.       a blank 1.44 MB diskette and a computer with a working CD-ROM
  33.       drive and diskette drive.
  34.  
  35.       To create the Boot Diskette:
  36.       -  Insert the Preload Reference CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
  37.       -  Change to the LOADSOFT directory on the CD-ROM drive.
  38.       -  Type BUILDDSK and press ENTER.
  39.       -  Insert a blank 1.44MB diskette into the diskette drive,
  40.          and press Y to continue.

  45.   3.  Diskette drive A of the ThinkPad as the startup drive.

  47.   4.  One of the following:

  49.       a. IBM DOCK I                                                     760E's

  51.       b. IBM SelectaDock I with Ultrabay 4X CD-ROM drive                760E's
  52.  
  53.       c. IBM DOCK II using DOCK I SCSI CD-ROM drive                     760E's
  54.  
  55.       d. IBM DOCK II using (IBM) ISA CD-ROM drive                       760E's
  56.  
  57.       e. IBM DOCK II using (IBM) IDE CD-ROM drive                       760E's
  58.  
  59.       f. Replace internal diskette drive with CD-ROM drive        760ED/760ELD
  60.  
  61.       g. Internal CD-ROM drive with external diskette drive              365XD
  62.  
  63.       h. Disctec Parallel Port CD-ROM drive                    365X/560/760E's
  64.  
  65.       i. Host to ThinkPad via parallel cable (INTERLNK)        365X/560/760E's
  66.  
  67.          Parallel-port cable connection (INTERLNK) between a computer
  68.          with a CD-ROM drive (host) and the ThinkPad to be reloaded
  69.          (target).  The host computer must have DOS 6.0 (or later) or
  70.          Windows95 installed and be connected to the target computer
  71.          with an INTERLNK- or LapLink-compatible cable.

  76. RECOVERING THE PREINSTALLED SOFTWARE:
  77.  
  78. ATTENTION:  The data on your hard drive will be destroyed.  Be sure
  79. that you have backed up all of your data and applications before
  80. running this program.  After you have installed the Preload Reference
  81. PC DOS/Windows 3.11 on your hard drive, you can install your
  82. application programs that were originally on your computer.
  83.  
  84. 1.  Start the Preload Reference Process.
  85.  
  86.     a.  Make sure the PC is powered off.
  87.     b.  Insert the Preload Reference Diskette into drive A of the PC.
  88.     c.  Power on the PC.  The program will start automatically.
  89.  
  90.     NOTE:  Do not insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive until
  91.            told to do so.
  92.  
  93. 2   a.  Choose Type of Computer
  94.  
  95.         Select the appropriate choice to match your ThinkPad model.
  96.  
  97.     b.  Select your CD-ROM drive from the CD-ROM Drive List.
  98.  
  99.         From this menu you can select to reinstall the software
  100.         from one of the CD-ROM drives listed under item 4 of the
  101.         Requirements section above.
  102.  
  103. 3.  Format the Drive.
  104.  
  105.     ATTENTION:  The ThinkPad hard drive will be formatted so that the
  106.     Preload Reference (PC DOS/Windows 3.11) can be installed.
  107.     The data on your hard drive will be destroyed.
  108.  
  109.     Before you can recover the preinstalled software, the hard drive
  110.     partition that contains the operating system must be formatted.
  111.     This program will reformat the entire hard drive, or format only
  112.     the drive C partition (if you have previously partitioned your
  113.     hard drive).
  114.  
  115.     Select the appropriate choice.
  116.  
  117.     a.  Format the entire hard drive and recover the preinstalled
  118.         software.
  119.  
  120.         This selection will FDISK and FORMAT your entire hard drive.
  121.         Every file on the hard drive will be deleted, all partitions
  122.         removed, and the preinstalled software will be reinstalled on
  123.         your hard drive.
  124.  
  125.     b.  Format drive C only and recover the preinstalled software.
  126.  
  127.         This selection will format drive C only and recover the
  128.         preinstalled software.  If your hard drive has multiple
  129.         partitions, only the data on drive C will be deleted.
  130.  
  131. 4.  Install the Preload Reference (PC DOS/Windows 3.11).
  132.  
  133.     Once your selection is made, the Preload Reference program will
  134.     begin to initialize.  When the system returns to the A: prompt:
  135.  
  136.     -  Leave the Preload Reference Diskette in drive A.
  137.  
  138.     -  Restart the computer by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL.
  139.  
  140.     -  Press C to continue with formatting or N to cancel the
  141.        formatting and go to a DOS prompt.
  142.  
  143.     A message will be displayed when the installation of the Preload
  144.     Reference has completed.
  145.  
  146.     If you are performing the installation process using INTERLNK,
  147.     pressing C will continue the formatting and also verify the
  148.     connection of the INTERLNK cable between the host computer and the
  149.     target computer.  If the connection is good, the blue INTERLNK
  150.     screen will appear on the target computer with the drive letters
  151.     assigned.  Continue with Step 4a.
  152.  
  153.     a.  Install the Preload Reference Using INTERLNK.
  154.  
  155.         Before continuing, ensure the CD-ROM drive in the host
  156.         computer is working, and the INTERLNK cable is properly
  157.         connected to the parallel ports of the target and host
  158.         computers.  If your host computer has DOS or DOS with Windows
  159.         3.1 installed, go to Step 4b.  If your host computer has
  160.         Windows95 installed, go to Step 4c.
  161.  
  162.     b.  Install the Preload Reference using a Host Computer with DOS
  163.         or DOS/Windows 3.x.
  164.  
  165.         To recover your preinstalled software from a host computer
  166.         using DOS or DOS/Windows 3.x:
  167.  
  168.         1)  Be sure the blue INTERLNK screen is on the target computer
  169.             with drive letters assigned.
  170.  
  171.         2)  On the host computer, change to the CD-ROM drive.
  172.  
  173.         3)  Type HOST and press ENTER.  The host computer will
  174.             restart.
  175.  
  176.         4)  After the host computer restarts, if you are using
  177.             Windows, exit from Windows.
  178.  
  179.         5)  At the DOS command prompt, change to the LOADSOFT
  180.             directory on the CD-ROM drive.
  181.  
  182.         6)  On the target computer, press any key to start the
  183.             INTERLNK session.
  184.  
  185.         7)  On the host computer, type LOAD and press ENTER.
  186.  
  187.         8)  When the completion message is displayed, on the target
  188.             computer press ALT+F4 to exit from INTERLNK.
  189.  
  190.             ATTENTION:  You must press Alt+F4 to exit from the
  191.             INTERLNK session in order for the installation process
  192.             to complete successfully.  When you have exited from
  193.             INTERLNK, some batch files will be executed.

  195.     c.  Install the Preload Reference Using a Host Computer with
  196.         Windows95:
  197.  
  198.         To recover your preinstalled software from a host computer
  199.         using Windows95:
  200.  
  201.         1)  Be sure the blue INTERLNK screen is on the target
  202.             computer.
  203.  
  204.         2)  On the host computer, click on START in Windows95.
  205.  
  206.         3)  Go to PROGRAMS and click on MS DOS PROMPT.
  207.  
  208.         4)  Change to your CD-ROM drive; type HOST and press ENTER.
  209.  
  210.             If changes are made to the CONFIG.SYS file on the host
  211.             computer, they will be displayed.
  212.  
  213.         5)  Type EXIT to close the window on the host computer.
  214.  
  215.         6)  On the target computer, press any key to start the
  216.             INTERLNK session.
  217.  
  218.         7)  On the host computer, click on START and then SHUT DOWN.
  219.  
  220.         8)  From the Shutdown Window, click on RESTART THE COMPUTER
  221.             and select YES.  The Host computer will restart.
  222.  
  223.         9)  Click on START; go to PROGRAMS and click on MS DOS PROMPT.
  224.  
  225.         10) At the prompt, type D:LOAD and press ENTER.
  226.  
  227.         11) Make sure the Preload Reference CD-ROM is in the CD-ROM
  228.             drive of the host computer; then press Y.
  229.  
  230.         12) When the completion message is displayed, on the target
  231.             computer press ALT+F4 to exit from INTERLNK.

  233.             ATTENTION:  You must press Alt+F4 to exit from the
  234.             INTERLNK session in order for the installation process
