  8. What This Diskette Does
  9. -----------------------

  11. This System Program Service diskette updates the system program stored
  12. in ROM of the following ThinkPad models;
  13.    - ThinkPad 340CSE
  14.    - ThinkPad 345C and 345CS
  15.    - ThinkPad 370C.
  16. If you are experiencing one of the problems listed in the following
  17. Summary of Problem Fixes section, please follow the instructions given
  18. in the Updating System Programs section below to update the system program
  19. of the above-listed ThinkPad computer.

  96. Updating System Programs
  97. ------------------------

  99. Notes: - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update
  100.          the system program.
  101.

  103. 1.  Print these instructions or display on another computer.
  104. 2.  Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer.
  105. 3.  Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive
  106.     and turn on the computer.
  107. 4.  Select "Read this first..." from the menu and carefully read the
  108.     information that appears.
  109. 5.  Press the Esc key to return to the menu.
  110. 6.  Select "Update system program" and follow the instruction on
  111.     the screen.
  112.  
  113.     Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update
  114.              has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE
  115.              COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM
  116.              BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED.
  117.  
  118. After the update has been completed, do the following to make the
  119. changes effective.
  120.  
  121. 7.  Make sure the System Program Service Diskette is removed from
  122.     the diskette drive, then turn off the computer.
  123. 8.  Press and hold the F1 key, then turn on the computer. Hold the F1 key
  124.     until the Easy-Setup menu appears.
  125. 9.  If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
  126. 10. Select Config, then select Initialize.
  127. 11. Select OK to initialize the system.
  128.  
  129. Run the diagnostics to make sure that the computer runs with no errors:
  130.  
  131. 12. Turn off the computer, press and hold the F1 key, then turn on
  132.     the computer. Hold the F1 key until the Easy-Setup menu appears.
  133. 13. Select Test, then select Start to run all the basic tests.
  134.     Various test patterns will appear on the screen.
  135.     An OK will appear for each device that passes the test.
  136. 14. Verify that OK appears for all of the devices tested.
  137. 15. Press the Esc key to exit Test and turn off the computer.
