  6. What This Diskette Does
  7. -----------------------
  8.  
  9. The System Program Service Diskette given here can update the system
  10. program stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions,
  11. or expand functions. The supported models are as follows.
  12.  
  13.    - ThinkPad 760E* , 760ED*, 760EL and 760ELD
  14.  
  15.      *  IMPORTANT NOTICE for 760E/760ED system users;
  16.             If you display is an XGA (1024 x 768), this diskette does
  17.             NOT support your BIOS.  Please update your BIOS with the
  18.             "IBM ThinkPad 760E/760ED XGA System Program Service
  19.             Diskette".

  21. To determine if you have to update the system program or not, please
  22. refer to the "Summary of Change" section.

  74.  - (Fix) Suspend intermittently inhibited when RI resume function is

  76.  - (Fix) Display diagnostics intermittently fail with error code

  80.  - (Fix) When total system memory size is 64MB or more, the system
  81.          can not correctly enable PCI SCSI Controller or PCI Ethernet
  82.          card attached to the SelectaDock.
  83.  - (Fix) Thermal problem (Tune up the stop clock function for power
  84.          saving).
  85.  - (Fix) IBM ThinkPad Space Saver Keyboard initialization returns an
  86.          error.
  87.  - (Fix) Easy-Setup prompt "Disabled Devices" when more than two
  88.          video devices are detected.
  89.             This message means when multiple video devises are
  90.             detected and it disables one of the devices as they
  91.             cannot coexist.  It is mistaken for an error message.
  92.             Easy-Setup menu is changed so that it will not display
  93.             this panel.

  96.  - (Fix) A small amount (8KB) of data could be overwritten and lost
  97.          under the following circumstances:
  98.  
  99.          - Hibernation is Enabled.
  100.          - There is data present on the last cylinder of the Hard
  101.            Disk Drive.
  102.          - The ThinkPad actually enters Hibernation mode by pressing
  103.            Fn-F12 or by customized power management options.
  104.  
  105.         NOTE:  - The problem does not occur when creating the Hibernation
  106.                  file.
  107.                - It only occurs when the ThinkPad actually enters
  108.                  Hibernation mode.
  109.                - Only 2.1GB Hard Disk has this problem.  There is no
  110.                  problem with other hard disks currently available from
  111.                  IBM.
  112.  
  113. <1.04>
  114.  - (Fix) POST operation takes long time when the Selecta-Dock II has no
  115.          IDE harddisk drive or CD-ROM attached to it.
  116.  
  117. <1.05>
  118.  - (Fix) System intermittently hangs especially under communication
  119.          environments.
  120.  - (Fix) Customized Typematic rate is reset at the Hibernation
  121.          wake-up time.
  122.  - (Fix) Some external monitors are not OFF when system is suspended.

  125.  - (Fix) Screen image corrupts after waking up from Hibernation mode.

  129. Updating System Program
  130. -----------------------
  131.  
  132. Notes: - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update
  133.          the system program.
  134.  
  135.        - If your computer is attached to any kinds of Docking station
  136.          or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before
  137.          proceeding.
  138.  
  139. 1.  Print these instructions or display on another computer.
  140. 2.  Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer.
  141. 3.  Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive
  142.     and turn on the computer.
  143. 4.  Select "Read this first..." from the menu and carefully read the
  144.     information that appears.
  145. 5.  Press the Esc key to return to the menu.
  146. 6.  Select "Update system program" and follow the instruction on
  147.     the screen.
  148.  
  149.     Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update
  150.              has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE
  151.              COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM
  152.              BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED.
  153.  
  154. After the update has been completed, do the following to make the
  155. changes effective.
  156.  
  157. 7.  Make sure the System Program Service Diskette is removed from
  158.     the diskette drive, then turn off the computer.
  159. 8.  Press and hold the F1 key, then turn on the computer. Hold the F1 key
  160.     until the Easy-Setup menu appears.
  161. 9.  If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
  162. 10. Select Config, then select Initialize.
  163. 11. Select OK to initialize the system.
  164.  
  165. Run the diagnostics to make sure that the computer runs with no errors:
  166.  
  167. 12. Turn off the computer, press and hold the F1 key, then turn on
  168.     the computer. Hold the F1 key until the Easy-Setup menu appears.
  169. 13. Select Test, then select Start to run all the basic tests.
  170.     Various test patterns will appear on the screen.
  171.     An OK will appear for each device that passes the test.
  172. 14. Verify that OK appears for all of the devices tested.
  173. 15. Press the Esc key to exit Test and turn off the computer.

  179. Each version of the System Program Service Diskette contains the following
  180. system program (BIOS). The BIOS P/N and the date can be viewed by invoking
  181. Easy-Setup and selecting Config followed by System Board.
