  28. What This Diskette Does
  29. -----------------------
  30.  
  31. The System Program Service Diskette given here can update the system
  32. program stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions,
  33. or expand functions. The supported models are as follows.

  35.    - ThinkPad 755CD, 755CE, 755CSE, 755CV, 755CDV and 755CX.

  37. To determine if you have to update the system program or not, please
  38. refer to the "Summary of Change" section.

  88.    reading or CD-ROM to hard disk copying (755CD only).
  89.  - Power-on or resume operation can be done even if the keyboard is raised.
  90.  - Resume operation can't be completed when any keys are depressed during
  91.    the resume.
  92.  - The mouse (TrackPoint) hangs when the Power-on Password is set.
  93.  - The serial or parallel data transfer fails when the SMI (System
  94.    Management Interrupt) is generated.
  95.  - The percentage of remaining power of Fuel-Gauge program may become over
  96.    100 % at the full charge.
  97.  - The power source (AC Adapter or Battery) indicator of Fuel-Gauge program
  98.    is not changed when the AC Adapter is attached.
  99.  - The pop-up low battery warning message by ThinkPad feature doesn't
  100.    appear when the remaining power of battery becomes low.
  101.  - Battery discharge information becomes invalid when the keyboard is
  102.    raised to go into the partial suspend.
  103.  - The 'Resume on timer' is not performed when 'Resume on incoming call'
  104.    is disabled in the ThinkPad feature.
  105.  - The TrackPoint may hang on resume.
  106.  - The screen may become blank when the system resumes normal operation
  107.    from hibernation mode (STN color panel only).
  108.  - A graphical hibernation message is not displayed when a specific
  109.    PS/Value Point CRT monitor is attached and the system goes into the
  110.    hibernation mode (STN color panel only).
  111.  - The mouse (TrackPoint) hangs at suspend/resume operation when
  112.    unattended resume is performed.
  113.  - The screen may intermittently become blank when the system resumes
  114.    normal operation from the suspend mode at the low temperature
  115.    (STN color panel only).
  116.  - The screen becomes blank when the LCD/external display switching key
  117.    (Fn+F7 key) is continuously pressed very much many times.
  118.  - The hard disk data may be corrupted when docked with the Dock-I with
  119.    some video adapter cards installed.
  120.  - The system may resume normal operation immediately when the system goes
  121.    into the suspend mode (755CD only).
  122.  - Suspend timer, Stand-by timer and Hibernation timer are performed later
  123.    than the setup value (the timers are delayed).
  124.  - Resume operation can't be done when both an AC adapter and an external
  125.    keyboard are attached.
  126.  - The spindle motor of PCMCIA hard disk drive doesn't stop when the
  127.    system goes into the suspend mode.
  128.  - The system hangs when the system goes into the safe suspend mode, and
  129.    goes into the hibernation mode by the hibernation timer, and then
  130.    powered on.
  131.  - The password prompt appears twice when the system resumes normal
  132.    operation by 'Resume on incoming call' or 'Resume on timer'.
  133.  - (Date/Time Menu in Easy-Setup) A small bug in the Year set in the
  134.    Date/Time panel.
  135.  - (Test Menu in Easy-Setup) The Display Diag has the wrong message of
  136.    80x25x16 9x16 pattern.
  137.  - (Test Menu in Easy-Setup) Error log isn't printed out during the DSP
  138.    Diag (Advanced Diag mode).

  199.  - (Fix) A small amount (8KB) of data could be overwritten and lost
  200.          under the following circumstances:

  202.          - Hibernation is Enabled.
  203.          - There is data present on the last cylinder of the Hard
  204.            Disk Drive.  This Is the last area on the drive to be used,
  205.            but may contain user data if the drive has been full or
  206.            contains very large files.
  207.          - The ThinkPad actually enters Hibernation mode by pressing
  208.            Fn-F12 or by customized power management options.
  209.  
  210.         NOTE:  - The problem does not occur when creating the Hibernation
  211.                  file.
  212.                - It only occurs when the ThinkPad actually enters
  213.                  Hibernation mode.
  214.                - Only 2.1GB Hard Disk has this problem.  There is no
  215.                  problem with other hard disks currently available from
  216.                  IBM.

  219.  
  220. Updating System Program
  221. -----------------------
  222.  
  223. Notes: - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update
  224.          the system program.
  225.  
  226.        - If your computer is attached to a ThinkPad Dock I, Dock II or
  227.          a port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before
  228.          proceeding.
  229.  
  230. 1.  Print these instructions or display on another computer.
  231. 2.  Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer.
  232. 3.  Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive
  233.     and turn on the computer.
  234. 4.  Select "Read this first..." from the menu and carefully read the
  235.     information that appears.
  236. 5.  Press the Esc key to return to the menu.
  237. 6.  Select "Update system program" and follow the instruction on
  238.     the screen.
  239.  
  240.     Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update
  241.              has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE
  242.              COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM
  243.              BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED.
  244.  
  245. After the update has been completed, do the following to make the
  246. changes effective.
  247.  
  248. 7.  Make sure the System Program Service Diskette is removed from
  249.     the diskette drive, then turn off the computer.
  250. 8.  Press and hold the F1 key, then turn on the computer. Hold the F1 key
  251.     until the Easy-Setup menu appears.
  252. 9.  If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
  253. 10. Select Config, then select Initialize.
  254. 11. Select OK to initialize the system.
  255.  
  256. Run the diagnostics to make sure that the computer runs with no errors:
  257.  
  258. 12. Turn off the computer, press and hold the F1 key, then turn on
  259.     the computer. Hold the F1 key until the Easy-Setup menu appears.
  260. 13. Select Test, then select Start to run all the basic tests.
  261.     Various test patterns will appear on the screen.
  262.     An OK will appear for each device that passes the test.
  263. 14. Verify that OK appears for all of the devices tested.
  264. 15. Press the Esc key to exit Test and turn off the computer.
