  10. What This Diskette Does
  11. -----------------------
  12.  
  13. The System Program Service Diskette given here can update the system
  14. program stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions,
  15. or expand functions. The supported models are as follows.

  19. To determine if you have to update the system program or not, please
  20. refer to the "Summary of Change" section.

  62.          - There is data present on the last cylinder of the Hard

  64.          - The ThinkPad actually enters Hibernation mode by pressing
  65.            Fn-F12 or by customized power management options.

  67.         NOTE:  - The problem does not occur when creating the Hibernation
  68.                  file.
  69.                - It only occurs when the ThinkPad actually enters
  70.                  Hibernation mode.
  71.                - Only 2.1GB Hard Disk has this problem.  There is no
  72.                  problem with other hard disks currently available from
  73.                  IBM.
  74.  
  75.  - (Fix) (CD-ROM Built-in Model only) System intermittently
  76.          can not get into the Suspend Mode.
  77.  
  78.  - (Fix) Screen expansion switch sometimes results in black-out screen.
  79.  
  80.  - (Fix) CD-ROM access failure is detected when attach/detch the AC
  81.          adapter while accessing the CD-ROM.

  83.  - (Fix) The LCD screen is not turned on when ThinkPad is powered-on
  84.          with its lid closed position.

  86.  - (Fix) Customized Typematic rate is reset at the Hibernation
  87.          wake-up time.

  90. Updating System Program
  91. -----------------------
  92.  
  93. Notes: - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update
  94.          the system program.
  95.  
  96.        - If your computer is attached to a port replicator,
  97.          turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding.
  98.  
  99. 1.  Print these instructions or display on another computer.
  100. 2.  Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer.
  101. 3.  Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive
  102.     and turn on the computer.
  103. 4.  Select "Read this first..." from the menu and carefully read the
  104.     information that appears.
  105. 5.  Press the Esc key to return to the menu.
  106. 6.  Select "Update system program" and follow the instruction on
  107.     the screen.
  108.  
  109.     Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update
  110.              has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE
  111.              COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM
  112.              BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED.
  113.  
  114. After the update has been completed, run the diagnostics to make sure
  115. that the computer runs with no errors:
  116.  
  117. 7.  Make sure the System Program Service Diskette is removed from
  118.     the diskette drive, then turn off the computer.
  119. 8.  Press and hold the F1 key, then turn on the computer. Hold the F1 key
  120.     until the Easy-Setup menu appears.
  121. 9.  If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
  122. 10. Select Test, then select Start to run all the basic tests.
  123.     Various test patterns will appear on the screen.
  124.     An OK will appear for each device that passes the test.
  125. 11. Verify that OK appears for all of the devices tested.
  126. 12. Press the Esc key to exit Test and turn off the computer.

  132. Each version of the System Program Service Diskette contains the following
  133. system program (BIOS). The BIOS P/N and the date can be viewed by invoking
  134. Easy-Setup menu.
