  1.  Mwave Upgrade for Digital Simultaneous Voice over Data (DSVD)
  2.  in DOS, Windows and OS2/WARP

  5.  Upgrade Highlights
  6.  ------------------
  7.  The Media Processor (Mwave Digital Signal Processor) on your system
  8.  can be enhanced with the addition of the new Mwave DSVD software which
  9.  provides concurrent voice-over-data communication via a single phone
  10.  line.
  11.  
  12.  The following upgrade is intended to install the Voice Over Data (VOD)
  13.  function for DOS, Windows and OS/2 Warp.
  14.  
  15.  This function is intended for limited distribution to IBM customers.
  16.  Upon the next release of the base Mwave code this will be obsolete.

  28.  I. Upgrade Scope
  29.  ----------------
  30.  This upgrade is for DOS, Windows and WARP environments.
  31.  
  32.  II. Upgrade Contents
  33.  --------------------
  34.    This upgrade contains the following Mwave files, which are installed.
  35.        GSM.DSP
  36.        RAMM.DSP
  37.        SPKVOD.DSP
  38.  
  39.    In addition, the diskette upgrade contains MICGAIN=430 in the modem
  40.    initialization files (MWMDOS.INI, MWMWIN.INI, MWMOS2.INI) to ensure
  41.    better voice response during VOD mode.

  43.  III. Upgrade Prerequisites
  44.  --------------------------
  45.    1. Mwave Version 2.0 needs to be present on your computer. It cannot
  46.       be used on previous releases of the Mwave DSP software. Please refer
  47.       to the readme files that come with that software for further info.
  48.  
  49.    2. The upgrade install must be installed from a DOS prompt or a DOS
  50.       prompt in Windows, but can NOT be installed while in OS/2.
  51.  
  52.  IV. Upgrade Instructions
  53.  ------------------------
  54.    1. If not already installed, Install Mwave Version 2.0 code.
  55.  
  56.    2. Boot to DOS
  57.  
  58.    3. Put the VOD upgrade diskette in the diskette drive.
  59.  
  60.    4. Change to the diskette drive letter.
  61.

  64.    5. Type 'install'
  65.  
  66.    6. Once the update process completes, shut down DOS and reboot your
  67.       machine (or reboot your machine back to OS/2).
  68.  
  69. V. Major operational characteristics and limitations
  70. ----------------------------------------------------
  71. 1. Voice Over Data (VOD) support provides for simultaneous voice and data
  72.    operations. This function connects Mwave to Mwave systems that both are
  73.    running Mwave 2.0 Voice over Data.
  74.  
  75. 2. VOD is enabled by AT-SSE1 (for ON), and disabled by AT-SSE0  (for OFF).
  76.    You should add these commands to your communications application
  77.    initialization string or manually enter them at your terminal prior to
  78.    initiating a connection. The Mwave modem default is VOD OFF.
  79.  
  80. 3. VOD is only functional at 14,400bps. If VOD is enabled, the Mwave modem
  81.    is automatically set to V.32bis (14,400bps).  Additionally, a V.42 or
  82.    V.42/V.42bis connection is required for successful VOD.  MNP or
  83.    asynchronous connections will not support VOD. If VOD fails to operate,
  84.    redial until you are able to make the required connection.  You may have
  85.    to make several attempts based on the status of your phone equipment.

  87. 4. For Online Help, see the AT Command Summary of the MWave Modem Command
  88.    Reference in the MWave ThinkPad Windows group (or in the OS/2 Modem Help
  89.    in the MWave for OS/2 group).

  91. 5. You can increase the productivity with remote communications and
  92.    conferencing applications that you can purchase separately. You can also
  93.    use VOD with the already preinstalled Triton CoSession Host program in
  94.    order to talk to the IBM HelpCenter for support at the same time your
  95.    system is being accessed (remote diagnosis). Currently, this program is
  96.    only supported in the native Windows, and native DOS environments. Not
  97.    OS/2 (Win-OS/2).  To utilize VOD function with CoSession, select the
  98.    TPMVH modem name in the CoSession Host Phone Book Setup.

  100. VI. Support
  101. -----------
  102. The Mwave 2.0 upgrade software can be obtained from the IBM PC Company BBS
  103. at (919) 517-0001. Also, customers with access capability, can obtain it
  104. from the Internet at FTP.PC.IBM.COM, and from the Thinkpad Forum on
  105. Compuserve. If diskettes are required, they can be requested for a nominal
  106. shipping & handling fee from 1-800-690-3882 (USA and Canada). Again, this
  107. upgrade offer provides users with improvements to usability, audio support,
  108. and speakerphone quality.

  110. The DSVD Voice over Data (VOD) enhancement can also be downloaded from the
  111. BBS locations as described above.
