  3. IBM Thinkpad Mwave DSP Patch for WAV files on Windows 95
  4. ========================================================
  5.  
  6. This patch is intended to fix the following problem:
  7.  
  8.      Mwave may malfunction when playing WAV files recorded with
  9.      sampling rates of exactly 11,000 Hz, 22,000 Hz, and 44,000 Hz.
  10.      Symptoms include:
  11.  
  12.         - Mwave stops functioning after attempting to play a WAV
  13.           file recorded at a sampling rate of exactly 11,000 Hz.
  14.           Windows 95 is still operational, but no Mwave function is
  15.           available. Windows 95 must be restarted to restore Mwave
  16.           function.
  17.  
  18.         - Mwave plays slowly WAV files recorded at a sampling rate
  19.           of exactly 22,000 Hz.
  20.  
  21.      Wave files recorded at the more common sampling rates of
  22.      11,025 Hz, 22,050 Hz, and 44,100 Hz are not affected.

  24.      NOTE: To check the sampling rate of a WAV file in Windows 95,
  25.            do the following:
  26.              - View the file using Windows Explorer.
  27.              - Right Click on the WAV file name.
  28.              - Click on the Details tab. The Audio Format line
  29.                indicates the sampling rate used to create the file.

  33. This patch is intended for limited distribution to IBM customers.  It has
  34. received only limited testing before release by IBM, therefore it is
  35. suggested that any critical data on your hard drive be backed up before
  36. applying it.  This patch will become obsolete with the next release of
  37. Mwave code.

  40. Patch Scope
  41. ===========
  42. This patch is intended for Mwave version 2.1 *ONLY* running under
  43. Windows 95. To confirm your Mwave version:
  44.  
  45.   - From Windows 95, click on Start, then Run
  46.   - Type C:\MWW\MANAGER\MWLEVELS.EXE and press Enter
  47.     This will display information from the MWAVE.INI file.
  48.     The Mwave version information is on the line starting with
  49.     "OEM=". Mwave 2.1 reads:
  50.       "OEM=Mwave ThinkPad Release 2.1"
  51.  
  52.     NOTE: If the patch is already installed, the following line will
  53.           also be displayed:
  54.              "Patch1=Wave Fix for 11000 Hz Wave Play"

  73. Patch Prerequisites
  74. ===================
  75. Mwave version 2.1 must be loaded on your computer running under
  76. Windows 95.

  79. Patch Instructions
  80. ==================
  81. 1. Remove this diskette from the diskette drive.
  82.  
  83. 2. Shutdown Windows 95 and restart the computer in MS-DOS mode.
  84.    (Click on Start, then Shutdown, then Restart the computer in MS-DOS
  85.    Mode).

  87. 3. At the C:\ prompt, type "a:\install" .
  88.  
  89. 4. Install will try to locate all of Mwave.  If everthing is not
  90.    found (probably because you used directory names other than
  91.    the Mwave default ones, or because Mwave exists on another
  92.    drive) it does not matter.  The ONLY directory that has to be
  93.    located is the Mwave Windows Directory (MWW).  If the
  94.    directory found is incorrect, then reply "no" when install
  95.    asks if everthing is correct.  Install will then prompt you
  96.    to type in the correct pathname.

  98. 5. Type "exit" to restart Windows 95
