  4. This MSMail fix is for users of the 755CE, 755CsE or 755CD with the DSP modem. 
  5. It WILL NOT work if applied to other systems and users may experience problems 
  6. with MicroSoft MSMail Remote. Following is a short study into apparent 
  7. incompatibilities between MicroSoft Mail Windows Remote Client v3.x and the 
  8. DSP MWave modem as shipped in the IBM ThinkPad 7xx (755CE, 755CsE, 755CD) 
  9. series.
  10.  
  11. When a user attempts to use MicroSoft Mail Windows Remote Client v3.x on an 
  12. IBM ThinkPad with the MWave modem installed, the installation will complete 
  13. normally. When the user attempts to connect to the postoffice to send/receive 
  14. mail, the software will appear to hang with the message "Initializing modem".
  15.  
  16. Apply the following fix to eliminate the problem: Obtain the MSMMWAVE.EXE file 
  17. from the IBM BBS (1-919-517-0001).
  18.  
  19. 1. Execute the MSMMWAVE.EXE file and follow the instructions displayed on the 
  20. terminal.  This will create the following files:
  21.  
  22.  MWAVE.SCR      Compiled MSMail modem file
  23.  MWAVE.MDM      Source file for the compiled MDM file.  If necessary your 
  24.         system administrator can modify this file and recompile for 
  25.         you

  29. 2. Copy the MWAVE.SCR file to c:\windows\msmail\msrmt\glb.  
  30.  
  31.  This script file contains the standard modem setup strings used by the 
  32.  External, Transmit and Listen programs. There are five procedures defined 
  33.  in this script file for setting up the modem and for connecting to a remote 
  34.  External machine.
  35.  
  36. The modem setup strings used here will be adequate for most people but there 
  37. may be some changes required if you are dialing overseas and require a longer 
  38. wait for Carrier Detect (S7 register) or if you wish to change the speaker 
  39. volume.  Note that if you used the -Innn option  in version 1.0 or 2.0 that 
  40. you will have to modify the S7 register and recompile this script file.

  42. The MWAVE.MDM file is the text version of the script file and is included for 
  43. your Mail Administrator who will have the necessary script complier required 
  44. to create a usable MWAVE.SCR file if chages are necessary.  For more 
  45. information regarding modem options consult your modem manual.

  47. 3. Edit the MSMAIL.INI file, located in the Windows subdirectory, and add the 
  48. following line under the [sfsremote] section.:

  50.  NOTE: the ô0ö is a zero.

  54. NOTE: To establish communications with two modems, both modems must have the 
  55. appropriate modem script installed.  If the customer does not have a script 
  56. he should check the MicroSoft MSWGA forum on CompuServ, library number 3.

  58. NOTE: If the user starts heavy system usage applications such as PageMaker or 
  59. CorelDraw during a communication session he may experience loss of carrier.  
  60. This is no different than any other communication application.  At the worst 
  61. there is potential of corrupting the file resulting in data loss.
