-
- Welcome to Compugraphic Collection, whether you are a old or new user,
- thank you for taking the time to look at this disk. If you are a new user
- you should hopefully find that this is a volume of one of the best
- Compugraphic font compilations available, and if you are an old user who
- has used other disks in the series, I hope you will find the changes made
- in this volume useful. These changes have taken place as from volume 8
- which incidentally, marks our hundredth font.
-
-
- SECTION 1
- ~~~~~~~~~
-
-
- INTRODUCTION
-
-
- Compugraphic Collection is basically a library of high quality PD and
- Shareware typefaces in Compugraphic format. These fonts are compatible with
- many DTP and word publishing programs as well as more recent versions of
- the Workbench. These disks are themselves PD and have been compiled with
- the aim to establish a large collection of freely distributable fonts for
- the Amiga User.
-
-
- COMPATIBILITY
-
-
- These fonts should be compatible with the following programs:
-
- · Professional Page v2.1 (and above)
- · PageSetter 3
- · Typesmith
- · Workbench v2.0 (and above)
- · Pagestream v2.0 (and above)
- · Final Copy
- · Final Writer
- · Wordworth v2.0 (and above)
-
- The fonts are compatible with Professional Page v2.1 and higher, however
- with Professional Page v4.0, some fonts are reported not to work. This is
- not something I have been able to verify as I do not as yet own a copy of this program. Workbench also has a similar problem. Due to the way they
- handles these fonts a few are not compatible. Lucky owners of Typesmith
- will be able to use all fonts and convert them to formats also usable by
- other programs. PageSetter 3 and Pagestream v2 (and above) users should be
- able to make use of the supplied fonts easily. Final Copy/Writer users
- should be able to use these fonts without problems. Other users should
- consult their manuals to see if the program they are using can handle the
- typefaces in the #?.dat, #?.lib, and #?.metric or #?.type format.
-
-
- CONTENTS
-
-
- This disk should contain all of the following:-
-
-
- a) A CGFonts directory containing the Compugraphic font files.
-
- b) A Font_Docs directory containing documentation of the individual
- typefaces.
-
- c) A CG_Update directory containing the CG_Update program and
- documentation.
-
- d) This ReadMe File ;-)
-
- e) A Pictorial list of the typefaces included on this volume.
-
- f) An Index of the complete library.
-
- g) A typeface installation utility.
-
- h) A help file with answers to some frequently asked questions.
-
-
- DISTRIBUTION
-
-
- This disk has been submitted as Public Domain and must stay that way.
- However, there are a few conditions to this.
-
-
- 1) If the font is shareware and you use it regularly then you must send
- the author his or her requested shareware fee. (Obviously this is only
- possible with the typefaces which have read me files attached).
-
- 2) The program CG_Update MUST NOT be freely distributed as PD or
- otherwise, in any other way other than on this disk. Please read the
- separate file.
-
- 3) You must not alter this disk in any way. My aim is to set up a large
- collection of these fonts and I would prefer that the disk format
- stays the same, any one other than me altering the disk and
- redistributing it would constitute the breaking Gold Disk`s copyright
- of the CG_Update program. PD libraries ARE allowed to put on there
- logos etc.
-
-
- SECTION 2
- ~~~~~~~~~
-
-
- ABOUT THE FONTS
-
-
- All of these fonts have either been converted by myself from Type 1 format
- or taken from other PD collections. Originally, all of the fonts included
- were PD and Shareware fonts on the PC or Mac. Most, if not all would have
- been converted to Amiga Compugraphic format using Gold Disk`s Fontmanager
- program, or Soft-Logik`s Typesmith.
-
- Unfortunately, there are many individuals distributing these converted
- fonts without the authors original documentation. In my view just because
- a file is in a different format does not stop it from being PD or
- Shareware. Leaving out these files is destroying the spirit of PD and
- Shareware everywhere, not just on the Amiga. These authors have spent a lot
- of time and effort creating these fonts and it is only fair they get their
- reward. I have done my best to include as many of the original readme files
- as I have access to, but unfortunately this amounts to what is probably
- less than 40% of the collection. This is because many of the fonts that
- are circulating around the PD libraries are without these files. If you
- ever give any of these fonts to anyone else, please include the readme
- files.
-
-
- ABOUT THE INSTALLER UTILITY
-
-
- Due to the many different applications that can make use of the
- Compugraphic format, the installation procedure for each is different. Most
- users will have to copy the typefaces from this disk to another directory,
- disk, or partition. In order to simplify this operation I have written a
- small script using Commodore's Installer utility. Here I shall go over
- the operation of this script.
-
- 1) Upon loading you will be asked whether you would like to
- install for real or for pretend. If you wish to really install the
- fonts select the real option or if you just want to run through the
- process select pretend. Underneath this is an option to create a log
- file. This will simply record what the installer script actually did.
- You can either select not to create one, save one as a file, or print
- it on a printer.
-
- 2) You will next be presented by a list of all the available
- fonts. Here you must select which fonts you would like installed. To
- do this simply click on the check box beside the font's name. Once you
- have made your choices click on the proceed button.
-
- 3) You will next be asked to select where you would like the
- fonts to be copied to. Select your path and click on proceed. For
- Professional Page and Pagesetter this will be your CGFonts drawer.
- For Wordworth this will be your intellifont drawer. For Pagestream
- you can copy them to where ever you like or use them straight from
- this disk. In this case it is not necessary to use the installer.
-
- 4) At this stage the installer will start to copy your chosen
- fonts to your chosen path. It will copy the .dat .lib and .metric file
- for each font. Note that this process has been designed for people
- with more than one disk drive or a hard drive. If you do not have this
- it would be quicker to copy the fonts by hand as a lot of disk swaps
- are needed. This shouldn't cause too much of a problem as most
- packages now require you to have at least two disk drives or a hard
- drive as a bare minimum.
-
- 5) The installation has now been completed. You should find you
- fonts in your chosen path. You will be asked to run various programs
- depending on which program you are using.
-
-
- N.B. Remember while using the installer you can press the help button if you are not sure of what to do.
-
-
- USING THE FONTS
-
-
- Professional Page v2.1 (and above) and Pagesetter 3 users:
-
- To use the fonts with these programs the installer will
- do all the necessary copying of files for you. Simply
- select your CGFonts partition or directory when the
- installer asks for you to select a path. Once this is
- completed you will need to run the supplied CG_Update
- program.
-
- PageStream v2 (and above) users:
-
- You may wish to copy the fonts to a different location,
- for which you can use the installer. You will then need
- to run the Font manager to set the location of the fonts.
- The fonts can also be used straight from this disk.
-
- Workbench v2.0 (and above) users:
-
- You will need to run the Fountain (Workbench 2) or
- Intellifont (Workbench 3) program. This will convert
- the supplied fonts to a suitable format.
-
- TypeSmith Users:
-
- No copying is required, the fonts can be used straight
- from the disk.
-
- Final Copy/Final Writer Users:
-
- Unfortunately I cannot help you with the installation,
- but I would guess you need to copy the fonts to your
- CGFonts directory. Read your manual for full
- instructions.
-
- Wordworth 2 (and above) Users:
-
- Select the fonts you want to use and copy the
- corresponding .lib file from this disk to you intellifont
- directory on one of your AgfaFonts disks. Then run the
- program AgfaInstall (This is also on one of you
- Wordworth2 disks). You can use the installer to do the
- copying for you.
-
-
- POSTSCRIPT USERS
-
-
- I have decided that due to limited space on each disk that I will not
- supply the downloadable font files. If you need them then you should use
- the CreateFont utility that was supplied with ProPage 2.1 and higher, and
- PageSetter 3. If I receive enough letters asking for them I may release
- separate disks with just these downloadable fonts on.
-
-
- CG UPDATE
-
-
- This program is for use with Professional Page v2.1 (and higher) and
- Pagesetter 3. Full details can be found in the ReadMeFirst! file which is
- in the CG_Update directory.
-
- This program will update the font list required by these programs. To be
- able to do this it must have access to your logical CGFonts: assignment.
- To ensure that this assignment is present boot up your machine from the
- programs floppy or hard disk and then run the CG_Update program.
-
- IMPORTANT NOTE FOR WORDWORTH USERS!: Wordworth uses a similar program
- to CG_Update called Agfa-Install. This has NOT been included on this disk
- as you will already have a copy of it on one of your Agfa-Fonts disks. To
- use it again boot from your floppy or hard disk and run the program.
-
-
- SECTION 3
- ~~~~~~~~~
-
-
- ABOUT THE FONT DOCUMENTATION
-
-
- Nearly all of the fonts included on these disks were originally in
- Type 1 format, which were then converted to Compugraphic format. While
- reading each fonts documentation you will notice that the author says that
- there are files included which you cannot find on this disk. These have not
- been included as they are specific to the Adobe format and the machine they
- were originally on. These file are of no use to you and so are not
- included. The necessary parts of these files have been converted and saved
- as the .dat, .lib and .metric files you will find in the CGFonts directory.
- The picture previews that the author may say are supplied have all been
- transferred into one file (see below).
-
-
- PICTORIAL FONT LIST
-
-
- The Fontlist file is simply a list of the fonts on this disk saved as a
- viewable IFF. To save having to use a separated picture viewer I used
- Amiganuts excellent MOD Processor. Unfortunately this means that you will
- not be able to alter it or view it through a program such a DPaint. To
- quit from the display just press the left mouse button.
-
- This file only gives a rough representation of how the fonts look. I had to
- use a screen grabber to save off the display from a DTP package. The fonts
- look rough on screen but print out much, much better.
-
-
- INDEX
-
-
- I have included an index list of all fonts up to and including the disk
- you have now. This will be updated with every release. The contents file
- details which disk you have and the fonts on it.
-
-
- FINALLY
-
-
- With the release of the Soft-Logik`s TypeSmith program and their promise of
- a Quark beating PageStream 3, it seems that at last there is a chance that
- the can Amiga establish itself as an excellent DTP machine. If you are
- lucky enough to own Typesmith and create any fonts using this or another
- such program, or have any unusual typefaces in either Compugraphic or
- Adobe Type 1 format please make them available to other users. Put them on
- a disk and send them to a PD library yourself or send them to me and I
- will be more than happy to include them on these disks!
-
- Thanks for reading this far, and I hope I haven`t confused you too much.
- Please take time to read the other very important files on the disk. I
- hope you will find this collection useful and make use of it. Please pay
- Shareware fees where possible, and just remember the cheapest selection of
- commercial fonts costs around £35 and contains only a small number. A
- shareware registration fee is a small price to pay. By the time you are
- reading this there should be a few more disks from this collection
- available so if you liked this one get the rest. All these disks
- should be available from most good PD libraries, if however they are not
- ask why! If you can`t find them then try:

-
-
- Please do not ask me to send you any of these disks as I do not have time
- to copy them myself. Just contact a PD library. If you have any comments,
- queries, questions etc. that you want answering please send an first class
- stamp, and I will try to reply as soon as possible. A blank disk is also
- sometimes useful but not necessary.
-
- If you have created any fonts yourself and would like them to be included
- in this collection, or you have some unusual PD/Shareware fonts please do
- not hesitate to send them in!

-
-
- Just a quick note. I have recently noticed that PD-Soft's range of
- PD/Shareware fonts is being made available through many more PD libraries
- such as 17Bit and Seasoft. Due to this I am seriously considering the
- future of the Compugraphic Collection series. Is it worth me continuing?
- If you have an opinion on this matter or any ideas for change please let
- me know at the above address. In the mean time I'll try to use fonts that
- PD Soft don't have in their collection.....yet
