Transcription: The Statue of Liberty was a gift from France to the United States in 1885. It is constructed of steel overlaid with copper standing 151 feet tall and weighing nearly 225 tons. The Statue of Liberty is green because over the years the copper has reacted with oxygen, water, and carbon dioxide in the air to form copper hydroxycarbonate. This green color is called a patina and it gives the Statue of Liberty her unique look.
