Elephants, for example, are herbivores because they eat only plants, and plants are producers. Notice how an elephant eats those plants. It grabs them with its trunk and then uses the trunk to pull them into its mouth. It does this quite a lot. In the wild, an elephant spends about three-fourths of its day feeding, and during that time it eats about 300 pounds of producers.
