- CALLBACK.CMD FOR PROCOMM 2.4.2
-
-
- The rationale behind this command file is that I had a computer at home I
- wanted to access from work. The Procomm host mode was great, but it tied
- up my one home phone line for that one purpose. I ordinarily keep an
- answering machine on my phone line to take messages while I am at work and
- couldn't do both. I tried to use the great little "Timed Execution"
- program to start up host mode only when I thought I would want it, but
- found that I was still hampered in that I had to deactivate the host
- mode when I was through with it or my answering machine wouldn't work
- until I did. After host mode was deactivated with the control-Z key
- combination, if I wanted to get back on line to my computer I was simply
- stuck. There was no way to use host mode only when I wanted it and as
- often as I wanted it.
-
- Then I ran into a great little BBS program called Minihost which had a neat
- feature in that if you called once on the phone line, the program didn't
- answer. If you called twice, with an appropriate wait in between the
- calls, it did answer. I liked the idea enough that I stole it.
-
- The only big catches are that your modem must support the extended result
- codes of the "Hayes 1200" variety. It must at least give you a ring
- indication of one sort or another. The command file right now is set up
- for the result codes of "RING" and "CONNECT" but the numerical equivalents
- could replace them if you want. I have tested on the "Migent Pocket
- Modem", the Supra Modem 2400, and the Amazing Things 2400B. I know it
- won't work on my old semi-Hayes compatible Avatex 1200.
-
- This command file is released to the public domain with no promises.
- Good Luck!
