- Notes about Bugs in the original release of REFBASE2 which have been
- fixed:
-
-
- REFBASE2 - Release 2.01.
- Date: 10-23-1988
-
- In the original release, numeric entries to the SelectFlag field would
- not sort properly since the field was set up as a character field (and
- 10 comes before all single digit numbers when characters are sorted).
- This has been fixed in a simple way by replacing the SelectFlag field
- with a numeric field named Sort#. The only change to procedures used
- in the initial release is that you should enter numeric values in this
- field. Character input (X was suggested in the original REFBASE2.DOC)
- is still allowed, but is not a good idea since some reports you might
- write attempt to do numeric summations on numeric fields, and you may
- get unpredictable results. All documentation and macros have been
- changed in this release to reflect this minor change. If you are
- already using REFBASE2, YOU DO NOT NEED TO MAKE ANY CHANGES TO YOUR
- DATABASE STRUCTURE to make the change.
-
- If you are comfortable with cloning your database using the utilities
- or have made major modifications to the database or the "smart keys",
- just clone the database (after making a complete backup of the
- original to a floppy disk in case of disaster!) and replace the
- SelectFlag field with Sort#. Field size it the same. Be sure to
- specify that Keywords, Comment, Title and Ref are defined as window
- fields of 150, 150, 200 and 200 characters respectfully.
-
- If you are using the original REFBASE2 structure, you may just copy
- the modified files and use them as follows (as above, make a complete
- copy on floppy disk of all of your REFBASE files before you make any
- modifications in case of problems). In the main database, replace the
- files REFBASE2.HDR, REFBASE2.KEY, and SMARTHLP.COM in your database
- with those included here. The two report formats, NATURE.REP and
- SCIENCE.REP, which include reference to SelectFlag in their output
- should also be replaced.
-
- If this is your first encounter with REFBASE2, ignore this Bugfix
- since this bug doesn't exist anymore!
