- ABOUT SEQUENCE.EXE
-
- SEQUENCE.EXE is a program from the kit, PIECES, by Another
- Company. With PIECES, you can create just about anything for
- IBM-compatible computing. No programming skill is necessary.
- See end of this file for more information about PIECES.
-
- What It Does
-
- SEQUENCE.EXE will run a series of programs, one after the
- other. Each time the user presses the left mouse button or
- the down arrow key, the next program in the series is run.
- Each time the user presses the right mouse button or up arrow
- key, the previous program is run. This is especially useful
- for displaying a series of pictures, by using PPCX.EXE for
- .PCX files or PGIF.EXE for .GIF files from the PIECES suite
- of programs. This results in a slide show.
-
- How To Use It
-
- SEQUENCE requires one parameter, the name of a standard
- ASCII text file containing the list of programs to run.
- Therefore, you might make a file called STUFF.1 which
- contains the following lines:
-
- PPCX.EXE CHESS.PCX
- PGIF.EXE SPIDER.GIF
- PGIF.EXE HORSE.GIF
- PGIF.EXE KITTYCAT.GIF
-
- Then if you type SEQUENCE STUFF.1, SEQUENCE.EXE will
- call the program PPCX.EXE and PGIF.EXE to display CHESS.PCX,
- SPIDER.GIF, HORSE.GIF and KITTYCAT.GIF, in order from top to
- bottom if the user presses the left mouse button or down
- arrow key. If the user presses the right mouse button or up
- arrow key, the previous pictures will be shown.
-
- Press the [Esc] key to quit SEQUENCE.EXE.
-
- To create a file for SEQUENCE.EXE, start your favorite word
- processor. On the first line, list the first program you
- want to run. On the same line, following a space, you can
- optionally list information that program may require. On the
- next line, type the name of the next program you want to run.
- If you have a third program, list it on the next line, and so
- on. There is no limit to the number of programs you can line
- up. Save the file using any DOS-legal filename. Your word
- processing program must operate in standard ASCII mode. If
- you cannot figure out how to do this, look for shareware word
- processing programs such as VDE or Galaxy, or use Windows
- Notepad which comes with every copy of Microsoft Windows.
-
- Additional Information
-
- SEQUENCE.EXE can also run .COM files and .BAT files, but
- it cannot display text or graphics files directly. It must
- run programs which will display text or display graphics.
-
- Filename extension is not usually required. You can type
- PGIF or PGIF.EXE, for instance, and the effect will be the
- same. In the case where there are more than one file with
- the same name, but different extensions, then .BAT files will
- be run instead of .COM or .EXE files, and .COM takes
- precedence over .EXE.
-
- SEQUENCE.EXE can handle optional parameters for the
- programs it runs of up to 100 characters in length.
-
- There is no limit to the number of programs SEQUENCE can
- handle, and no limit to the size of the file listing these
- programs.
-
- SEQUENCE.EXE can be executed from within other programs, and
- of course, you can execute programs from within SEQUENCE.
- SEQUENCE supports all standard text and graphics modes.
-
- SEQUENCE.EXE will not overwrite images already on the screen
- unless it runs a program which does. This way, you can mix
- and match SEQUENCE with other software, without ill effect.
- For instance, you might put a single image on the screen
- before running SEQUENCE.EXE, then use SEQUENCE.EXE to run
- through a bunch of sound effects, while the picture remains
- visible.
- Because of this characteristic, run CLEAR.EXE (from the
- PIECES suite of programs) to clear the screen when done. This
- is typically done by making a batch file or a RUN.EXE script
- file which starts with SEQUENCE and a filename one on line,
- then CLEAR.EXE on the next line.

- About Pieces
-
- PIECES is a shareware disk containing several small programs
- that can be combined to do a variety of tasks with
- a super-professional look and feel. No programming experience
- is needed. PIECES can be expanded to incorporate your
- favorite programs as well, so it's possibilities for making
- and enhancing pictures shows, text presentations, multimedia,
- electronic catalogs, teaching materials, executable software,
- games, shareware and more are limitless!
- You can register as many or as few PIECES as you wish.
- Registered users are licensed to copy and distribute the
- PIECES along with their finished products. Unregistered
- users may copy and distribute the complete unmodified PIECES
- package, but may not use only portions of it until purchase
- of registration. Use of PIECES beyond 30 days requires
- registration.
- Most unregistered PIECES programs have a "unregistered"
- notice which pops up randomly, approximately every 200 times.
- This is removed from the registered versions, and also saves
- as much as 3,000 bytes disk space per program.
