- Path Finder
- You are trapped in the upper left hand corner of a maze. The object
- is to get to the bottom right hand corner as fast as you can. The
- maze is 20x77. You can only see the square you are in (except in
- Trail Mode, see next section). For your benefit, if you are in a
- that you have previously been in, the square will be highlighted.
- You use the the arrow keys or the numbers on the number keypad
- (2,4,6,8) to move down, left, right, and up. Your final score
- reflects how long you took to solve the maze. The computer clock
- ticks 18.2 times each second, and your score is the number of clock
- ticks it took you to finish.
-
- If the totally blank screen proves to be to difficult, You can play
- the game in Trail mode. In this mode, all of the squares that you
- have been on stay lit. This makes backtracking from dead end paths
- easier. (Too easy, if you ask me.) Once you and your users get
- used to the game, you'll probably want to remove this option. Of
- course you can always set up two seperate versions of the game.

- Standard Mode versus Trail Mode
- In the standard (or default) mode, the player can only see the
- square that they occupy. Some people find this extremely
- difficult, and decide not to play the game. In trail mode, all
- the squares that the player has occupied stay visible. This makes
- the game much easier. Many new players tend to prefer this mode.
- I make no reccomendation on whether you should set up one mode in
- particular or both. To enable trail mode, see the command line
- option below.
-
- Installation
- Please consult INSTALL.BOI and COMMANDS.BOI for basic installation
- help. Please also note the following information:
-
- Files
- PATHFIND.INS (and PATHFIND.KEY if you've registered) belong in
- the same directory as PATHFIND.EXE.
-
- Command Line Options
- Installation examples can be found in INSTALL.BOI. Path Finder
- supports all command switches available in the BBS Onliner
- Interface as well as the following command
-
- command effect
- -T Trail Mode.

- Registration and Trial Period
- Path Finder is ShareWare. It is totally uncrippled. There are no
- bells or whistles, or time delays, or time bombs, or limited
- functions. You have the whole works. You are allowed to try
- Path Finder online for up to two (2) months. At that point you
- should either take the game offline, or register it. The current
- registration fee is ten United States dollars ($10US). When you
- register, you will be sent a registration key that will work on all
- future releases of Path Finder. Please consult REG_USA.BOI for
- further details about registering this and other BOI doors.
-
- What the files are
- file what it is and where it lives
- PATHFIND.EXE This is Path Finder
-
- PATHFIND.INS This is the instruction file that Path Finder will
- display to users. I ask that anyone interested in
- translating this into other languages to contact me
- personally. A near future release of Path Finder and
- my other doors will also allow for all text WITHIN the
- game to be translated as well. This file belongs in
- the same directory as PATHFIND.EXE
-
- PATHFIND.KEY This is the registration key file. This file (if you
- have it) belongs in the same directory as PATHFIND.EXE
-
- PATHF.HOF This is the Hall Of Fame data file. The game will
- create and maintain this file in the same directory as
- PATHFIND.EXE. If you wish to reset the Hall Of Fame,
- you can delete this file.
-
- PATHHOF.TXT This is the text Hall Of Fame. This file is designed
- as a user bulletin. By default it is created in the
- same directory as PATHFIND.EXE, but it can be moved
- and/or renamed by use of the /Y command line option
- (see COMMANDS.BOI). This file displays the all time
- high score, the three best from the previous month,
- and the current month's top ten.
-
- BOI.LOG The BBS Onliner Interface maintains this log file for
- diagnostic reasons.
