- C & E Fishing Time Forecaster
-
- Documentation
-
-
- Since the earliest times man has been aware of a cyclic pattern
- associated with his success in hunting and fishing. Over the
- years he has observed a relationship between feeding and
- activity patterns of fish and game and the phases of the moon.
- This is not to say that there are not many other factors such as
- temperature, barometric pressure and others but all serious
- hunters and fishermen will agree that this lunar relationship is
- real and important. It is for this reason that many publications
- print probability graphs or Over/Under time tables to help you
- determine the most productive hunting and fishing times.
-
- The program FISHTIME has been written to evaluate not only the
- moon's phases but also its position in the sky including its
- North South travels during a lunar month as it orbits the earth.
- It allows you to do this for any date after January 1st, 1980
- and for any location in the continental United States. In
- addition, it includes the effects involving the time of day such
- as dawn and twilight which have always played an important part
- in the feeding patterns of fish and game.
-
- Operation of the program requires virtually no instruction
- beyond the screen prompts. Detailed discussions of the program
- features are presented in this documentation.
-
- C & E Associates has chosen to use the Shareware concept to dis-
- tribute this program. This is good for us in that it contains
- many of the costs associated with a retail sales effort. It is
- good for you since it allows you to make an intelligent buying
- decision by trying the program to make sure it does what you
- want before you spend your money. It does however bring with it
- a legal and moral commitment to buy (Register) the program after
- you have tried it and found it to be to your liking. The authors
- of Shareware receive NO money from the distribution of their
- efforts until you, the user, register it. If you believe the
- effort that goes into writing a program such as this deserves
- the fifteen dollar registration fee then please register by
- sending your check along with the form included at the end of
- the documentation.
-
- No program features have been "held back" until you register the
- program. When you register, you will receive a copy of the lat-
- est version of the program as well as discounts on any future
- program upgrades. In addition, you will be kept informed about
- several other programs in development on related subjects. Prog-
- gram support will be provided to both non-registered and regist-
- ered users using Compuserve Mail addressed to Edward J. Panner,
- (72717,1612) or by U.S.Mail addressed to Edward J. Panner at the
- registration address.

- This program is produced by a member of the Association of
- Shareware professionals (ASP). ASP wants to make sure that the
- shareware principal works for you. If you are unable to resolve
- a shareware related problem with a ASP member by contacting the
- member directly, ASP may be able to help. The ASP Ombudsman can
- help you resolve a dispute or problem with an ASP member, but
- does not provide technical support for members' products. Please
- write to the ASP Ombudsman at 545 Grover Road, Muskegon, MI
- 49442 or send a Compuserve message via Compuserve Mail to ASP
- Ombudsman 70007,3536.
-
- Additional information about the legalities of Shareware may be
- found in the appendix to this documentation.

- Program Information
-
- LOCATION DATA- In order to accurately predict optimum fishing
- times the program needs to know your geographic position. The
- more precisely you enter this data, the more accurate the
- results will be. Latitude for the continental United States is
- always a positive number and should be entered as a decimal
- value. For example, 32 degrees and 30 minutes should be entered
- as 30.5 degrees. If possible, try to enter location data to
- nearest 0.5 degrees. Longitude in the continental United States
- is always a negative value and must be entered as such. Again,
- it would be desirable to enter it to the nearest 0.5 degrees.
-
- To enter your location, choose "UPDATE LOCATION" from the menu.
- Enter the data as it is requested. You may use up and down
- arrows to move through the data field to edit existing data.
- Answer Yes or No to the Daylight Saving time query. If you
- answer Yes, the program output will be displayed in daylight
- savings time from the end of April to the end of October and
- will be so labeled on the program displays.
-
- When you have finished entering or editing the location data,
- press the END key to write the location file. This data will be
- loaded whenever you start the program until you change it.
-
- TIME ZONES- The program displays probability/time data for the
- time zone calculated from the Longitude you have entered in your
- location data. The time is delayed by one hour for every 15
- degree change in Longitude. Unfortunately, the time zones do not
- change at exact lines of Longitude, instead they meander in an
- approximate North/South direction to avoid splitting towns and
- other geographic boundaries.
-
- At any rate, the time zone calculated by the program is shown on
- the program output screens and will be correct for most loca-
- tions but may have to be adjusted by one hour for others. The
- moon cares little for our time zones and predictions are based
- only on the coordinates entered.
-
-
-
-
-
- THE CITIES FILE- Latitude and Longitude data is not always
- readily available so a list of major cities has been made
- available to let you approximate your geographic position. While
- the results may not be as precise as if you had entered your
- exact location, it may well be close enough for your purposes.
- To enter the data for one of these cities, select the CITY FILE
- option from the menu choices, select a city near you and enter
- its listing number. The location data for that city is automati-
- cally entered and will be used until you change it.
-
- If you have selected data from the cities list you may edit it
- just as you can edit data you have entered. Your changes will
- stay in effect until you change them. Be advised however, your
- changes do not modify the Cities File so if you read the data
- for that city again you will get the original values.
-
- A SINGLE DATE RUN- To run the program for a single date, select
- BEGIN EXECUTION from the menu. You will be asked to enter the
- date of interest. The date should be entered in the MO/DY/YR
- format. It will be checked for validity and you will be asked to
- confirm it. Press the HOME key to restart if there is an error
- or any other key to proceed with the program. The probability
- graph is displayed and will remain on the screen until you press
- any key at which time you will be returned to the menu screen..
- Pressing the ESC key will return you to the menu screen from
- virtually anywhere in the program.
-
- RUNNING A BLOCK OF DAYS- You may wish to display a block of days
- in sequence without entering the date for each one. Choose RUN
- DATE BLOCK from the menu. You will be asked to enter the Start
- date. After you do, the date will be checked for validity. You
- are then asked to confirm it and then to enter the End date.
- After this date is checked and confirmed the program will dis-
- play the requested dates in sequence simply by pressing any key
- after each one. If you wish to stop before completing the
- series, press the ESC key to return to the menu.
-
- PRIME TIME LIST- In addition to the graphic display, you may
- want to display or print a list of prime times for any day or
- block of days. Choose the LIST PRIME TIMES option from the menu
- screen. The operation is straight forward in that you will be
- asked about hard copy, block of days and dates. The two prime
- times for the days of interest will be listed on the screen and,
- if you requested hard copy, also on the line printer.
-
-
-
-
-
- GENERAL COMMENTS- Make sure that the program, the location data
- file and the cities file are all in the same subdirectory. If
- the program is started and cannot find the location data file it
- will automatically switch to the routine for creating one. This
- would happen for example if the location data file were in a
- different subdirectory.

- Appendix to FISHTIME Documentation
-
- Shareware
-
- Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
- and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
- exceptions as stated below. The author specifically grants the
- right to copy and distribute the software, either to all or to a
- specific group.
-
- Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
- should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
- whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
- fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
- And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
- has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
- product, you don't pay for it. Shareware distribution gives
- users a chance to try software before buying it. If you try a
- Shareware program and continue using it, you are expected to
- register.
-
- FISHTIME is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge
- to the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your
- friends, but do not give it away altered or as part of another
- program. The essence of "user-supported" software is to provide
- personal computer users with quality software without high
- prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to continue
- to develop new products. If you find this program useful and
- find that you are using FISHTIME and continue to use it after a
- reasonable trial period, you must make a registration payment of
- $15.00 to C & E Associates.
-
- The registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
- computer at any one time. You must treat this software just like
- a book. An example is that this software may be used by any num-
- ber of people and may be freely moved from one computer location
- to another, so long as there is no possibility of it being used
- at one location while it's being used at another. Just as a book
- cannot be read by two different persons at the same time.
-
- Anyone distributing FISHTIME for any kind of remuneration must
- first contact C & E Associates at the address below for
- authorization. This authorization will be automatically granted
- to distributors recognized by the (ASP) as adhering to its
- guidelines for shareware distributors, and such distributors may
- begin offering FISHTIME immediately (However C & E Associates
- must still be advised so that the distributor can be kept
- up-to-date with the latest version.)
