- COLORADO WINDOWS SOFTWARE MAKES
- BACKUP EASIER THAN EVER
- Loveland, CO--April 20, 1993--Colorado Memory Systems, Inc., the
- leading supplier of quarter-inch minicartridge (QIC) backup
- systems, today announced the easiest-to-use- backup software yet
- for Windows. Called Colorado Backup for Windows, it features "drag
- & drop" operation, backup in background while other applications
- are running, macro recording, disk grooming and One-Step utility
- icons, along with numerous other features to speed and simplify
- backup.
-
- Rick Turley, Vice President of Marketing for Colorado Memory
- Systems pointed out that the new backup software is a
- state-of-the-art Windows application. Turley said, "With more and
- more users opting for the Windows environment, we wanted to provide
- a backup solution for Jumbo that is not only fully Windows
- compatible, but one that also simplifies backup by making optimal
- use of the power and simplicity of the graphical user interface."
-
- With Colorado Backup for Windows, fast backup operations can be
- initiated simply by dragging a hard-disk icon and drop it on a tape
- icon. In fact, most operations begin with a simple "drag & drop."
- Once backup is initiated, the user can return to other applications
- while backup is performed in the background.
-
- To supplement its intuitive operation and minimize dependence on
- manuals, Colorado Backup for Windows has an on-screen Quick-Start
- reference that gives users step-by-step instructions for performing
- various backup and utility functions. Full Windows help is also
- provided.
-
- An easy-to-use macro recorder also makes it simple for users to
- create automated backup routines. These can then be initiated via
- drag & drop, or, automatically, through the scheduler for
- unattended backup at any time. To make things even easier, some
- pre-recorded macros come with the software.
-
- One-Step icons are provided for tape utility functions such as
- format, erase, unerase, rename and retension tape, along with run
- macro and macro scheduling, to further simplify operation. A tape
- icon is simply dragged and dropped on the appropriate One-Step icon
- to initiate the function. A new Move function is also provided,
- allowing users to groom disks and free valuable space by moving
- seldom used programs and files to an archival tape.
-
- Other features include fast and reliable data compression, flexible
- file tagging, restore redirection, tape linking, display of
- operation statistics, including a backup "speedometer," and
- numerous user selectable options for backup and restore modes.
- Colorado Backup for Windows is QIC-40 and QIC-80 compatible,
- assuring data interchange and transportability. The software is
- also compatible with popular peer-to- peer networks.
-
- Colorado Backup for Windows is a $59 option for either Jumbo 120 or
- Jumbo 250 drives and will be available in May. Versions that
- support Trakker and PowerTape drives will be available later this
- year.
-
- Colorado Memory Systems is a wholly-owned subsidiary of
- Hewlett-Packard. Headquartered in Loveland, Colorado, the company
- manufactures a wide range of QIC-compatible tape backup solutions
- and accessories, including Jumbo, Trakker, and PowerTape backup
- systems. Colorado Memory Systems sells its products through a
- network of computer OEMs, major national distributors and retail
