- CHEAPSET 1.0nly 30 Aug 93
-
- Why am I even writing this documentation? I really don't know. The
- only justification is that maybe, just maybe, somebody might have
- some desire for this little program I wrote. Doubtful.
-
- But hey, if I've piqued your interest so far, I might as well
- expound with what this 10k blurb does...
-
- FUNCTION: To allow those who have access to such over-the-air time
- standards like WWV, WWVH, CHU, etc... to accurately set their
- computer clocks by sight/ear rather than costly dialup programs.
- Why the need for so much precision? Why not just type in the next
- minute at the DOS Time command and hit Enter on the beep? Well, the
- main reason being that certain "learning" programs, like Rightime,
- rely on accurate timesets--always. If you roughly set your clock,
- the results won't be there. Garbage in, garbage out.
-
- OPERATION: Is elementary... You'll start out with two clocks, in
- synch. The DOS clock will always read the current DOS time. You
- change the other clock in order to compensate for time errors. For
- example, if you run the program and the lower clock is beeping about
- 1/2 second after the WWV timemark, adjust it using the function keys
- as labeled below. You can manipulate down to the hundredth of a
- second so, with a good ear, it is possible to get CHEAPSET's beeping
- in exact synch with whatever station you're tuning in.
-
- After you get the second clock "aligned," hit 'S' and the DOS time
- will be set to match it. THAT'S IT! The only other keys used are:
-
- 'R'- Resets Adjusted Clock variations
- ESC- Ends program
-
- Hopefully somebody else will enjoy being able to cheaply get their
- clock-adjuster programs calibrated through creative use of a ham
- radio or other world-band receiver.
-
- If you use/d this program, I'd like just to hear about it. I write
- for myself, but if others make use of my "work" it seems all the
- more worthwhile. So, if you have any requests or comments....
