  1. Comanche: Maximum Overkill Demo

  3. GETTING THE DEMO TO RUN
  4.  
  5.       This Demo Requires a 386/486 computer.
  6.  
  7.       This Demo Requires 4 Megabytes of Memory.  In general, 500K of
  8.    conventional memory and 3 Megabytes of XMS memory.  This Demo
  9.    will not work with EMS emulators such as 386MAX, QEMM386 and
  10.    EMM386.  These drivers must be removed from your CONFIG.SYS and
  11.    AUTOEXEC.BAT files, or you should re-boot from a normal boot disk.
  12.    To make a boot disk, place a blank disk in drive a: and type
  13.    FORMAT A:/S.

  15.       If you have QEMM386 installed, you may temporally disable it by
  16.    pressing ALT during boot up.  This should allow you to run the demo.
  17.  
  18.       If the Demo runs out of memory, check your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT
  19.    for SMARTDRV.  Try reducing the size of the SMARTDRV disk cache or
  20.    removing it entirely.  If you are using DOS 5 with HIMEM.SYS, make sure
  21.    the CONFIG.SYS file contains DOS=HIGH.

  23.       If the Demo will not work, verify that your CONFIG.SYS file
  24.    contains the line DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS.  The HIMEM.SYS file
  25.    comes with both DOS 5 and WINDOWS.  If you created a boot disk,
  26.    copy HIMEM.SYS to the boot disk, and create a CONFIG.SYS file with
  27.    the line DEVICE=HIMEM.SYS

  29. ADJUSTING THE DEMO
  30.  
  31.       To change the sound card ports or to select a new music card,
  32.    type SETUP from the cdemo directory.
  33.  
  34.       During the flying part of the demo, press "Esc" to access the
  35.    demo menu.  Use the arrow keys and "Enter" to select menu functions.
  36.    From the menu, you can adjust the detail of the terrain to allow the
  37.    demo run more smoothly on a slower machine.  Low detail is about
  38.    80% faster than high detail, but causes the scenery bounce and sparkle.
  39.    Turning off small pixels will double the speed of the demo, but may
  40.    look chunky.  Turning off clouds can speed up the demo by up to 20%.
  41.    The speed and image quality can be balanced to taste.

  43.       The menus also allow the Sound and Music volumes to be set to taste.

  45.       To make changes permanent, select "Save Menu Settings" from the first
  46.    pull down menu.  To Exit the DEMO type ALT-Q or select "Exit to DOS".
