- U.N.I.T v1 By Andrew Edmonds
-
- *** The Ultimate New Internet Tool ***
-
-
- 1. INTRODUCTION:
-
-
- So, you've downloaded that mod file from the Aminet but you can't find
- that stupid mod player and when you do it is an annoying CLI only
- player. So what do you do? This is where UNIT comes into place. You
- can configure different viewers and then you can load them up at any
- time through a simple row of buttons. Here's the clever bit, when you
- click on the icon for the viewer you require a file requester pops
- up. Select the appropriate type of file (eg. mod file, pic etc) and
- the player will play it. UNIT feeds your selected file to be loaded
- up by the configured viewer. Don't expect to be blown away with
- features as this is V1, my first venture into serious programming.
-
- UNIT can also load up you fave. browser, email, IRC packages and can
- directly control MIAMI! Now you can connect, disconnect, hide, show
- and quit MIAMI from a small window within the UNIT program! What
- makes it very clever is that you can set a time to disconnect, so you
- are not on the internet for longer than you should be!
-
- Also featured is a clock and alarm, so you know how long you have
- been on the internet for!
-
-
- 2. INSTALLATION:
-
-
- This program SHOULD work straight from the CD. I have supplied an
- Installation program that will install all the needed files to
- your HD. The Times font is required, and can be found in an AFCD's
- Fonts directory.
-
-
- *** IMPORTANT ***
-
- Note that UNIT will look rubbish on a non Magic Workbench screen.
- Make sure you are running an 8 colour (or more) MWB screen! Any
- resolution should do!
-
-
- 3. USAGE:
-
-
- Using my program SHOULD be very, very easy indeed. When you first
- load it up go to the prefs screen (select "edit prefs" from Prefs
- menu). From here click on each little icon and configure the
- appropriate viewer (eg. for sound you could select Play16, for anims
- you could select Viewtek.) Repeat this process with all viewers.
- Finally select your internet programs with the bank of buttons going
- across the screen. They represent, in this order MIAMI PATH, WEB
- SOFTWARE, EMAIL, FTP, NEWS and IRC. Click on each and select the
- appropriate executable file. Please notethat the modem button must
- be supplied with a MIAMI executable as at present no AmiTCP support
- (wait for V2!). All other internet programs are your own choice and
- hold no restrictions. Once you are happy you can save the
- preferences and return to the main screen. At the top of the screen
- is a row of buttons (SAMPLE, PIC, ANIM, MOD/MID and MULTIVIEW) these
- represent the viewers you have configured previously. Clicking on one
- button will bring up a file requester asking you to select a file to
- be loaded up by the viewer.
-
- Below these buttons are the buttons for loading up various pieces of
- internet software. Clicking on the modem will bring up a window
- enabling you to control MIAMI. You can LOAD MIAMI, CONNECT,
- DISCONNECT, SHOW, HIDE and QUIT MIAMI from this window. Clicking on
- the DISCONNECT button will bring up another window which will enable
- you to set the time you wish MIAMI to disconnect, or you can simply
- "DISCONNECT NOW!". Finally clicking on the clock next to the time
- brings up a screen where you can set an alarm, if you wish to cancel
- a previous alarm simply click th CANCEL ALARM button.
-
- *** Please note that times should be entered in HH:MM:SS, i.e NOT ***
- *** 7:30, but 07:30:00. ***
-
-
- 4. FUTURE
-
-
- This program should be something special by version 2. Expected
- features:
-
- * Control over IBrowse
- * Automatic search for new mail
- * Clock telling you how long you have been connected etc.
- * Phone bill - boy that would be cool!
- * AmiTCP support - if I can get the thing to install!
- * File recognition - and automatic viewer loading!
-
-
- Don't be surprised if version 2 is shareware because if all these
- features make it then it will be one very good program.
-
-
- 5. HISTORY
-
-
- 03/97 - Made "Multi File View Interface" but scraped due to the
- fact that it was useless.
- 05/97 - Remoulded MFVI into UNIT and decided it was quite cool!
- 06/97 - First free ware version released!
- 07/97 - ?????
