  7. 1. INTRODUCTION:

  10. So, you've downloaded that mod file from the Aminet but you can't find
  11. that stupid mod player and when you do it is an annoying CLI only 
  12. player.  So what do you do?  This is where UNIT comes into place.  You
  13. can configure different viewers and then you can load them up at any 
  14. time through a simple row of buttons.  Here's the clever bit, when you
  15. click on the icon for the viewer you require a file requester pops 
  16. up.  Select the appropriate type of file (eg. mod file, pic etc) and 
  17. the player will play it.  UNIT feeds your selected file to be loaded 
  18. up by the configured viewer.  Don't expect to be blown away with 
  19. features as this is V1, my first venture into serious programming.

  21. UNIT can also load up you fave. browser, email, IRC packages and can 
  22. directly control MIAMI!  Now you can connect, disconnect, hide, show 
  23. and quit MIAMI from a small window within the UNIT program!  What 
  24. makes it very clever is that you can set a time to disconnect, so you 
  25. are not on the internet for longer than you should be!

  27. Also featured is a clock and alarm, so you know how long you have 
  28. been on the internet for!

  31. 2. INSTALLATION:

  34. This program SHOULD work straight from the CD.  I have supplied an 
  35. Installation program that will install all the needed files to 
  36. your HD.  The Times font is required, and can be found in an AFCD's 
  37. Fonts directory.

  42. Note that UNIT will look rubbish on a non Magic Workbench screen.  
  43. Make sure you are running an 8 colour (or more) MWB screen!  Any 
  44. resolution should do!

  47. 3. USAGE:
  48.  
  49.  
  50. Using my program SHOULD be very, very easy indeed.  When you first 
  51. load it up go to the prefs screen (select "edit prefs" from Prefs 
  52. menu). From here click on each little icon and configure the 
  53. appropriate viewer (eg. for sound you could select Play16, for anims 
  54. you could select Viewtek.)  Repeat this process with all viewers.  
  55. Finally select your internet programs with the bank of buttons going 
  56. across the screen.  They represent, in this order MIAMI PATH, WEB 
  57. SOFTWARE, EMAIL, FTP, NEWS and IRC. Click on each and select the 
  58. appropriate executable file.  Please notethat the modem button must 
  59. be supplied with a MIAMI executable as at present no AmiTCP support 
  60. (wait for V2!).  All other internet programs are your own choice and 
  61. hold no restrictions.  Once you are happy you can save the 
  62. preferences and return to the main screen.  At the top of the screen 
  63. is a row of buttons (SAMPLE, PIC, ANIM, MOD/MID and MULTIVIEW) these 
  64. represent the viewers you have configured previously. Clicking on one 
  65. button will bring up a file requester asking you to select a file to 
  66. be loaded up by the viewer.

  68. Below these buttons are the buttons for loading up various pieces of 
  69. internet software.  Clicking on the modem will bring up a window 
  70. enabling you to control MIAMI.  You can LOAD MIAMI, CONNECT, 
  71. DISCONNECT, SHOW, HIDE and QUIT MIAMI from this window.  Clicking on 
  72. the DISCONNECT button will bring up another window which will enable 
  73. you to set the time you wish MIAMI to disconnect, or you can simply 
  74. "DISCONNECT NOW!".  Finally clicking on the clock next to the time 
  75. brings up a screen where you can set an alarm, if you wish to cancel 
  76. a previous alarm simply click th CANCEL ALARM button.

  85. This program should be something special by version 2.  Expected 
  86. features:

  88. * Control over IBrowse
  89. * Automatic search for new mail
  90. * Clock telling you how long you have been connected etc.
  91. * Phone bill - boy that would be cool!
  92. * AmiTCP support - if I can get the thing to install! 
  93. * File recognition - and automatic viewer loading!

  96. Don't be surprised if version 2 is shareware because if all these 
  97. features make it then it will be one very good program.

  103. 03/97     -  Made "Multi File View Interface" but scraped due to the 
  104.              fact that it was useless.
  105. 05/97     -  Remoulded MFVI into UNIT and decided it was quite cool!
