- INTRODUCTION
-
-
- Hello, Thank You for your purchase of Phoenix Publishing's latest
- CD-ROM collection of Public Domain & Shareware programs.
-
- We really hope you will be as thrilled with this product as we are
- in presenting it with all its features & latest software to you.
-
-
- WHAT IS SHAREWARE?
-
-
- Shareware constitutes a low cost alternative to many DOS programs.
- Its greatest advantage is that you get to try a program before you buy
- it. There are no hassles in obtaining an RMA from a store manager or
- having to present your sales slip. Shareware is a method of product
- distribution & its overall quality & functionality is improving rapidly.
-
- This is only happening since many users support Shareware products
- by sending in their registration fees when they find a software item
- which suits their needs, applications or desires. In reality, if you use
- any shareware product past its trial period without registering it, you
- are violating Shareware laws & in effect, stealing it from an author.
-
- You should know that many Shareware programs found on your PHOENIX
- CD-ROM come from many hundreds of skilled Shareware authors not only
- from America, yet from dozens of other countries worldwide.
-
- Your support is important & is appreciated by individual authors.
- With it, Shareware authors are encouraged to develop & distribute newer
- products. Without it, a great deal of high quality software will cease
- to be readily available as a commercial software alternative.
-
- We hope many of these Shareware products on our CD-ROM become a
- part of your system & we urge you to evaluate other Shareware products
- when you decide to add additional software to your system.
-
- Please, register all Shareware that you use. It is only right.
-
- We here at PHOENIX have spent many hours trying to make sure we did
- not go against an Author's distribution plan. We believe that we have
- conformed to as many directives as possible that we knew about when this
- CD-ROM was released into production.
-
-
- INSTALLATION
-
-
- If you have an installation from another PHOENIX product, then you
- can skip this section & go to our section "PREVIOUS INSTALLATIONS."
-
- Let's walk through installation right now. This way you can have a
- pretty good idea of what to expect & how this CD-ROM will function. We
- assume that right now you are doing your installation from DOS. First,
- switch to your CD-ROM drive letter. For our example, we will pretend it
- is letter P. From your P prompt, just type install & then enter, like
- so: INSTALL [ENTER]. Install will ask you what drive you want put your
- files on. For this example, we will say it is drive C. All you need to
- do is press C. Install will add a new directory on your C drive called
- PHOENIX. A Sub-Directory & two files will be copied to there. They are:
-
- 1. PHOENIX.EXE < Use this command from your DOS prompt.
- 2. PHOENIX.CFG < Your PHOENIX configuration file.
- 3. WORK <DIR> < A "Scratch Pad" area used by PHOENIX.EXE.
-
- You have now completed installation of our CD-ROM in your computer.
- We will now present our basic commands & functions so that you can begin
- enjoying our latest addition to your CD-ROM library. This section will
- explain how this CD-ROM will operate from your DOS prompt.
-
-
- OPERATION GUIDELINES
-
-
- At your prompt, type CD\PHOENIX & press [ENTER]. This will change
- to our working PHOENIX sub-directory. You should see C:\PHOENIX> All
- you have to do here is just type PHOENIX [ENTER]. This will bring up our
- new main menu. You will see our main topic selections. Here, only three
- functions are available for your use. They are as follows: [D]isplay,
- [S]upport & [Q]uit.
-
- MAIN MENU SELECTIONS
-
- [L]og will list all files available to you from a particular area.
-
- [R]escan is a feature which allows you to change from one PHOENIX
- CD product to another while using your current file retrieval program.
-
- [H]elp provides a single screen to explain each of these functions.
-
- [Q]uit will allow you to escape from PHOENIX.EXE to DOS.
-
- LOG MENU SELECTIONS
-
- Options for you are: [R]etrieve, [C]opy, [V]iew, [H]elp, & [Q]uit.
-
- [R]etrieve is to unzip a file from our CD-ROM onto your system. If
- you press [R], you will be asked for a suggested sub-directory as a
- destination. Y or N is all you need to select. If you pick N, you will
- then be given an option to unzip your file to any drive & sub-directory
- you desire. If you enter a sub-directory which does not exist on your
- target drive, [R]etrieve will make it for you. Notice that [R]etrieve
- will suggest a file name as your sub-directory.
-
- * For [R]etrieve to properly function, you must have a current copy
- of PKUNZIP.EXE in your path. If you do not have a copy, we have provided
- it in our PKWARE sub-directory. Pkunzip & its other files are Shareware
- programs & require proper registration to Pkware, Inc.
-
- [C]opy will copy a file from our CD-ROM onto your system (In its
- zipped form). If you choose [C], you will be asked for your target path
- (Drive letter & sub-directory, for example: C:\SAMPLE). If you enter a
- target path which does not exist, [C]opy will make it automatically.
-
- [V]iew is an option which lets you look at individual files which
- are contained inside of a .ZIP file. Three options are available to you
- at this point, they are: [R]ead, [H]elp, & [Q]uit. [R]ead will allow you
- to actually view any document or text file that is part of a zipped file
- without having to unzip a large file.
-
- [H]elp provides a single screen to explain each of these functions.
- You will see a manual option on here. This option will display our file
- PHOENIX.DOC. (You are reading it right now). Notice on your side, a
- vertical bar telling you what your location is within this file. If you
- desire, you can print-out all 3 pages of this document on your printer.
-
- [Q]uit will return you from this screen to our Main Topic Menu.
-
-
- PREVIOUS INSTALLATIONS
-
-
- For users who have a previous PHOENIX product installed on their
- system (Like VERSION 5.0), please note. This CD-ROM product has a unique
- design which allows a user to use a previous version of our PHOENIX.EXE
- programs. Therefore, if you have these already installed on your system,
- you do not have to install this CD-ROM. If you do install this CD-ROM,
- it will automatically update your older version of PHOENIX.EXE. PHOENIX
- PUBLISHING will continue our commitment to our concept of CD-ROM access.
-
