  5. Adding additional memory to the Novell N286A & N286B file servers
  6.  
  7. The Novell N286A server comes delivered with one megabyte of
  8. memory on the mother board. The N286B server comes with two
  9. megabytes of memory on the motherboard. Additional memory may be
  10. added to either of these machines by using some ofthe memory boards
  11. sold for use in the IBM-PC/AT.

  13. We have sucessfully tested the Advantage! card available from AST
  14. Research. As the N286A server comes with one megabyte, it is
  15. necessary to understand how the memory is configured. The first
  16. 640K of RAM is considered as base memory. The remaining 384K is
  17. expansion memory. This 384K expansion memory starts at the one
  18. megabyte level or 1024K. Any addition expansion memory MUST start
  19. after this memory. This means that additional expansion memory
  20. MUST start at 1408K. The AST Advantage! allows its memory to start
  21. at 1408.

  23. After correctly configuring the add-on memory board to start at
  24. 1408K, run the SETUP program provided with your N286A server. The
  25. base memory need not bechanged. Configure the expansion memory
  26. size taking the total number of memory onthe add-on card plus 384K.
  27. This will give you the total expansion memory size.

  29. The procedure for the N286B server is the same except that it
  30. already has 1408K of expansion memory in it. Therefore, any
  31. additional memory that is added MUST start at 2432K. Note that
  32. some add-on memory boards will only allow selections in increments
  33. of 512K and therefore are not suitable for use on the Novell N286A
  34. & N286B servers.
