  1. Shareware Breakthrough!

  3. Welcome to the Shareware Breakthrough CD-ROM. This disk contains hundreds 
  4. of the latest shareware and public domain programs and files. This disc 
  5. was designed for computers running Microsoft Windows 3.1 or later.
  6.  
  7. The first thing you need to do is to install the Browser software for 
  8. this CD-ROM.  First launch Windows, and then choose Run from the File 
  9. menu. At the command line type:

  11. D:\SETUP <ret>
  12.  
  13. where D is your CD-ROM drive. (Note that often many machines set their 
  14. CD-ROM drive to E instead of D.) Once the setup program has run you 
  15. will now be able to launch the Browser software directly from a Windows 
  16. icon in the "Shareware Breakthrough" program group.NOTE: The setup routine installs a version of the browser that includes
  17. animation and sound.  If you wish at any time to use the version
  18. that does not contain the sound or animation, first click once on the
  19. Shareware Breakthrough program icon.  Then go to the Properties
  20. item under the File menu.  At the Command Line, Exhange the word 
  21. "SHARE.EXE" in the path with "NOSOUND.EXE".  From there on the other
  22. version will be launched.

  24. BMP Files
  25.  
  26. The files in the /BMP directory are saved as .BMP files, also known 
  27. as Windows BitMaps.  These color picture files can be opened by 
  28. most graphic programs.  You can even use these files as background 
  29. for your Windows desktop.  This is done by first copying your .BMP 
  30. file to the Windows directory.  Next choose Control Panel from your 
  31. Main window. Open Desktop and choose Center from the Wallpaper area. 
  32. Finally click on the down arrow and locate your .BMP picture.  Click 
  33. once on your picture filename and click OK in the Desktop window. 
  34. You now have a new background.

  36. EPS Files

  38. The files in the \EPS directory are saved as .EPS files, also known 
  39. as Encapsulated Postscript. These files are most commonly used as 
  40. black & white graphics in desktop publishing programs. They can be used 
  41. in popular DTP programs such as PageMaker, or Ventura Publisher. They 
  42. can be edited with programs that support EPS graphic formats such as 
  43. Adobe Photoshop or Corel Draw.  The files in the \THUMB directory are
  44. BMP thumbnail versions of the EPS files, and they are there for the
  45. Browser's use.

  47. GIF Files
  48.  
  49. The files in the \GIF directory are saved as .GIF files, short for
  50. Graphics Interchange Format.  This format is a popular compressed file
  51. format. These color picture files can be opened by most graphic programs.

  53. Fonts
  54.  
  55. The files in this directory are True Type Fonts. Before installation,
  56. it is recommended that you first copy the desired font to hard drive.
  57. the Windows Font Installer loads all of the names of the fonts in a
  58. directory, and the 150+ names in the \FONTS folder on the CD-ROM can
  59. cause quite a delay.

  61. These fonts can be loaded by first choosing the Fonts control panel. 
  62. Next, click on the Add button and navigate to the location of the 
  63. font through the directory menu. Finally click once on the font name 
  64. and click OK to add that specific font. The new font will now reside 
  65. in the installed fonts listing, it will now be available to all Windows 
  66. programs that support Truetype fonts.
