  3. These are formatted versions of the major MH documents (written
  4. using the troff "-ms" and "-me" macro packages).  The ".doc" files
  5. are formatted for 66 lines/page:

  7.   ADMIN.doc    - The MH Administrator's Manual - how to configure MH
  8.   MH.doc    - The MH User's Manual
  9.   changes.doc    - Changes from MH 6.6 to MH 6.8
  10.   mh-gen.doc    - The "READ-ME" file - how to generate MH (aka mh-gen(8))

  12. Postscript versions are also available:

  21. These are postscript conversions of the MH papers which were written
  22. using the TeX typesetting language:

  25.   beginners.ps        - UCI MH for Beginners
  26.   mh4mm.ps        - MH for MM users
  27.   mh6.ps        - Changes from MH 6.0 to MH 6.5 for 4.3BSD
  28.   multifarious.ps    - MH: A Multifarious User Agen
  29.   mznet.ps        - MZnet - Mail Service for Personal Micro Comp. Sys.
  30.   realwork.ps        - MH.5 - How to process 200 messages...
  31.   trusted.ps        - Design of the TTI Prototype Trusted Mail Agent
  32.   tutorial.ps        - The MH Tutorial

  34. These conversions have been provided because they may be of use to some
  35. sites who retrieved MH using FTP, and who do not have TeX to typeset
  36. the papers themselves.  Of course, all recipients of an MH distribution
  37. tape receive a complete set of laser-printed manuals.

  39. These conversions were generated with the "dvips" program.  I have
  40. printed them on an Imagen 5320 w/ Turboscript, and the output is
  41. identical to the original "dvi" versions of these papers.

  43. As yet, I have had no success downloading the postscript files to a Mac-
  44. intosh, and printing them on a Laserwriter.  If you are able to generate
  45. copies of these papers which will print (identically to the originals or
  46. otherwise) on a Laserwriter, please contact "Bug-MH@ICS.UCI.EDU".

  63. These conversions have been provided because they may be of use to some
  64. sites who retrieved MH using FTP, and who do not have TeX or a laser
  65. printer on which to print the papers.  If you have a Postscript
  66. printer, you may want to retrieve the Postscript conversion of these
  67. papers, available in a different tar archive.

  69. Of course, all recipients of an MH distribution tape receive a complete
  70. set of laser-printed manuals, and these conversions are not a
  71. substitute for properly-formatted copies of the originals.

  73. The conversion was generated by the "dvi2tty" program.  As full use of
  74. TeX's rich typesetting environment was used in writing many of these
  75. papers, and since the output is intended for a line printer, it is
  76. necessarily quite primitive.
  77.  
  78. Font changes and special character representations are lost entirely.
  79. White-space between words may be deleted or expanded, especially near
  80. punctuation characters.  Blank lines may be added or deleted.

  82. Since typeset lines are typically longer than 80 tty characters, the
  83. output has been generated for 132-colunm output devices.  A typical
  84. page has about 76 lines.  Pages are separated by a formfeed character.
