  4. All filename extension corrections and contributions are most welcome!

  6. Two thirds of the extensions are checked very carefully (and slow) from
  7. the original manuals of the various programs, thanx to the manual room
  8. of the Oulu university Computer Center. The rest originate from various
  9. computer magazine reviews and ads, internet news and your feedback.
  10.  
  11. As far as I'm concerned this collection can be freely used in any kind
  12. of projects as long as the origin is mentioned and appropriate credit is
  13. given. In real life this means you'll have to mention Filex, where to
  14. get it (if not included) and send me a free fully functional copy of the
  15. book or the program. Yes, it's a hard bargain: tanstaafl =-)
  16.  
  17. I have a dream that programmers would check out the extension list
  18. before giving names to their program files. As you can see, there're
  19. already lots of general used and understood extentions (which is a GOOD
  20. thing), but also several quite severe conflicts (which is a BAD thing).

  22. The following individuals have been most helpful, first when I collected
  23. the original Extension List and later updating it. There are more, but
  24. unfortunately I started to keep this credits list only after releasing
  25. Filex 1.2, which btw was the third public release of the Extensio List:

  28. The major part of list was created when I spent hours and days and weeks
  29. in Computer Center's Manual Room. Good ventilation, I caught cold :)

  44. Well, other projects had distracted my attention away from Filex and the
  45. version 1.3 was almost the last. Fortunately Mr. Robert Hood send me a
  46. most kind letter (with envelope and all!) and thus I desided to make an
  47. update. Thank you!

  49. Version 1.5 will be released, when the database grows to 1700 extensions
  50. and the size gets over 64k == the curse of DOS memory management.
