  1. EVENING STAR
  2. This game sees you in  command  of  a  train  that  runs from Bath Spa
  3. station to Bournemouth.
  4. At the main menu press 0 for a  detailed  demo of what you need to do,
  5. or 1, then 1 again for  loco  controls.  You can then control Cut Off,
  6. Brake and Regulator.
  7. As you sit at Bath, open cut off  fully by pressing C four times. Half
  8. open regulator (R twice) and you're  off!  At  four miles an hour open
  9. regulator fully for maximum  speed.  To  slow  down at stations you'll
  10. need to use  the  brakes  and  close  the  regulator  and cut-off. Bit
  11. tricky, all this. the idea is to  stop  at the far end of the platform
  12. so everyone can get on or off.
  13. The options (main menu) are what you've got to try and better. They're
  14. are as follows.....

  16. 0. Demo run. Useful for  watching  the  computers actions. This is the
  17. best way to learn how to play evening star.
  18.  
  19. 1. Practice session. All you've got  to  do  is stick to the timetable
  20. (key T) and stop at Evercreech junction.
  21.  
  22. 2. A non-stop local run. There's a  speed limit of 40mph, so keep your
  23. speed down (and watch out for motorcyclists).
  24.  
  25. 3. Another 40mph speed limit, but  you  must obey all signals and stop
  26. where the timetable tells you to. The signals (in the top right corner
  27. of the screen) are STOP (down position) and GO (up position). Stations
  28. where you're supposed to stop are in capital letters on the timetable,
  29. and at each station allow one  minute  for  everyone to get on and off
  30. the train.

  32. 4. With all the above restrictions,  but  the  train runs from Bath to
  33. Bournemouth.

  35. 5. As 4, but you should try and get to Bournemouth early, thus setting
  36. a world record.

  38. 6. You must stick to the  timetable  perfectly, this being the special
  39. Pines Express (which is never late).
  40.  
  41. 7. As above, but a problem will  occur.  This appears on the screen so
  42. press SPACE to acknowledge it and deal  with it the best you can. Good
  43. luck!

  45. Save your position by pressing T then  S, in case you haven't got time
  46. to finish a run there and then.
