It was founded in 1974 to foster the use of renewable and sustainable energy, the responsible use of non-renewable forms of energy, and to convey the value of these practices for the preservation of the environment.</i></b>       <HR> <center><img src="CHALLNGE.GIF" tppabs="http://solstice.crest.org/clients/nesea/challnge.gif"></center><br> <P><Energy generation and use is the single greatest threat to our environment. And, the use of fossil fuel is the major cause of global warming, air pollution, and acid rain. There are adverse political and economic consequences as well. Dependence on imported oil has lead to an unfavorable balance of trade, inflation, and national insecurity.</P> <p><i><b>The Challenge</b> is to develop practical alternatives to traditional energy sources that do not threaten the environment, and maintain the quality of life as we know it.</i></p> <P>DEVELOPING A HEALTHY AND SUSTAINABLE ENERGY FUTURE IS POSSIBLE.
