Who We Are
Renew America is a non-profit organization founded in 1989. We coordinate a network of community and environmental groups, businesses, government leaders and civic activists to exchange ideas and expertise for improving the environment. By finding and promoting programs that work, Renew America helps inspire communities and businesses to meet today's environmental challenges.
We Search for Success
Renew America's Environmental Success Index chronicles more than 1,600 effective environmental programs nationwide that measurably protect, restore or enhance the environment. When individuals or organizations face a specific environmental problem, they can learn how projects in the Index address similar issues. The ongoing search for environmental programs reaches out to local and national organizations, corporate executives, educational institutions and all levels of government. Programs in the Index meet tough standards for program effectiveness, natural resource conservation, economic progress and human development.
We Recognize Environmental Excellence
Each year Renew America presents its National Awards for Environmental Sustainability to celebrate 26 outstanding programs from across the country for their exceptional achievements. The winners are chosen from among the many hundreds of Index programs by the National Awards Council, made up of environmental, community, government and business organizations.
We Bring People Together
Through an interactive national video teleconference, Renew America brings together directors of successful environmental programs, corporate executives, community leaders and government officials into a single forum. The teleconference is downlinked to scores of communities across the country. In 1995, participants discussed Jobs and the Environment; in 1996, Environmentally Sustainability Communities; and in 1997 Environmentally Sustainable Energy Choices.
