Internet 101: Netiquette of Email

Probably not enough be can said on this topic. Here are some pointers.

1. You own your own words. Take responsibility for anything you say and don't allow others to use what you say without permission.

2. Learn the style of text only communication. No YELLING, please. I *mean* it.

3. Feel free to email anyone you want, but not as part of large list. Sending personal email is one thing, sending unsolicited junk email is another. Using lists is fine if you first ask people if they want to be on your mailing list. If you set up a mailing list, make it clear how people can unsubscribe (get off the list).

4. If someone sends you a long email with a question at the bottom of it, respond to the question by repeating it in your email. Don't copy the other person's entire email -- just his/her question. Also, responding 'yes' or 'I agree' without an excerpt can be just as annoying as excerpting the entire previous email.

5. Check your email daily. It is common courtesy to read emails in a timely fashion.
