Back to You & Your Body

CAN I ASK QUESTIONS?

YES. You can ask questions and you should.

Many people, no matter how old, are often afraid to ask a doctor questions. If you understand how your body works and know what happens during an exam it will be easier to ask questions.

THESE ARE THINGS A DOCTOR SHOULD DO:
  • Be polite and treat you with respect.
  • Explain what he or she is doing.
  • Tell you if anything is wrong and explain how she or he plans to treat the problem.
  • Tell you if there are other ways to treat the problem.
  • Explain any medicine that he or she wants you to take.
  • Make sure your visit is confidential.
  • Tell you how to care for yourself after you leave the clinic.
  • Answer ALL of your questions.
  • Explain if there are any costs. Many health services are free to teens.
YOU SHOULD...
  • SPEAK UP
  • ASK QUESTIONS
  • TELL THE DOCTOR ABOUT ANYTHING THAT IS BOTHERING YOU.
