CAN I ASK QUESTIONS?
YES. You can ask questions and you should. Many people, no
matter how old, are often afraid to ask a doctor questions. If you understand
how your body works and know what happens during an exam it will be easier to
ask questions.
THESE ARE THINGS A DOCTOR SHOULD DO:
- Be polite and treat you with respect.
- Explain what he or she is doing.
- Tell you if anything is wrong and explain how she or he plans to
treat the problem.
- Tell you if there are other ways to treat the problem.
- Explain any medicine that he or she wants you to take.
- Make sure your visit is confidential.
- Tell you how to care for yourself after you leave the clinic.
- Answer ALL of your questions.
- Explain if there are any costs. Many health services are free to teens.
YOU SHOULD...
- SPEAK UP
- ASK QUESTIONS
- TELL THE DOCTOR ABOUT ANYTHING THAT IS BOTHERING YOU.
