Dr. Paula's Guide to 5 Frequently Used OTC Medicines

NOTE - It is essential that you know your child's weight in order to use this guide. In order to convert pounds to kilos just divide in half - that is close enough. (Divide by 2.2 for those purists among you)

TYLENOL Acetaminophen 15 milligrams per kilo for fever of 102 F or greater
12 milligrams per kilo for under 102 F or minimal pain
COMES AS 160mg per teaspoon or 80mg per chewable tab or 80mg per .8ml infant drops
(Also available as 160mg junior "swallowable" size tabs)
IBUPROFEN Advil or Motrin 10 milligrams per kilo for fever of 102 F or greater or pain COMES AS 100mg per teaspoon or chewable tablet or 40mg per milliliter infant drops
BENADRYL Diphenhydramine 1 milligram per kilo for allergies or runny nose COMES AS 12.5mg per teaspoon
SUDAFED Pseudoephedrine 1 milligram per kilo for congestion COMES AS 15mg per teaspoon or chewable tab
IMODIUM Loperamide HCL
For Mild Diarrhea

1/2 teaspoon for under 25 pounds
1 teaspoon for 25-50 pounds
2 teaspoons for over 50 pounds:
