ThermometerBuy a rectal thermometer such as BECTIN
DICKENSON''S rectal glass thermometer. Don't waste your money on an expensive "ear
thermometer" because they are not well designed for the young infant's ear
size and shape and can really mislead you into a false sense of security...they
rarely register a fever in the small ears of babies or else they register
totally different temperatures between the two ears ( even the makers of
Thermoscan tell you to check for consistency between the ears and ignore the
readings if they don't jive). Oral and armpit measurements are not accurate in
the newborn and also can be misleading. Stick with the old fashion anal
thermometer.
