These toys and rattle contain small components that can break off presenting a choking hazard to young children. Although the importers are not aware of any injuries, the recalls are being conducted to prevent the possibility of injury. The importers involved are: Laiko International Company Inc., Lexin Inc,, Shalom International Corp., and the Right Start Inc. Laiko International is recalling more than 50,000 Free Wheel Racer toy cars. These plastic toy cars were sold through Dollar and other discount stores
nationwide from November, l993 through December l996. For more information call
Laiko at (800) 735-2456. Lexin, Inc. is recalling 340 Little Performer and 240 Flying Boat toys.The toys were sold through specialty gift and collectible stores in the West and Southwest. Shalom International Corp. is recalling about 75, 000 Colormates toy jewelry sets.The plastic necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and barrettes come in a variety of pastel and bright colors and styles. The sets were packaged on cardboard hand tags which say: COLORMATES-NOT RECOMMENDED FOR CHILDREN UNDER 3 YEARS OLD. For more information call Shalom International Corp. at (800) 524-1428. The Right Start Inc. is recalling about 8,000 Baby's Play Setsbecause the blue and white ball attached to the yellow rabbit rattle may separate. The sets include up to nine red, yellow and blue plastic toddler toys shaped like rabbits, hammers, key rings, horns and phones. Consumers should take the yellow rabbit rattles away from young children. Return these yellow rattles or the complete set to the nearest The Right Start store or call the company at (800) 710-7816. The Oriental Trading Company of Omaha, Nebraskais voluntarily recalling 44,000 wooden toys because some of the paint on the toys contains high levels of lead. If a child chewed on one of these toys he or she could swallow lead. (Two types of wooden toys are involved in this recall. One toy is a set of 32 wooden beads with a cord for stringing the beads and other is a set of six spinning tops.) Consumers who purchased these wooden toys from toy stores should return them for a full refund. Consumers who purchased the toys through Oriental Trading's catalog should call the company at (800) 228-0045. Paperweights and PensShelby Ltd, a Division of Wang's International is recalling about 40,000 paperweights and pens because they contain kerosene or other petroleum products. Many of these products were sold to children: if the paperweights or pens break or leak, the liquid can be hazardous if inhaled. (The liquid could also be combustible.)
