How ? Firstly, rename the directory DemoQ3 in your Q3Test directory, to BaseQ3, this turns off restrictions and allows extra files to be seen. Then, download this zip file, VisorSkin1.Zip, and unzip into BaseQ3, it should create a Models\Players\Visor directory with all the skins in there. Unfortunately Q3test does not currently auto detect extra skins, so you have to select your skin manually via the console: At the console type: where SKINNAME is the name of one of the skins show above, for
example: this would select the 'Lore' skin. Providing everyone else you play with on the Quake 3 servers out there have these skins installed, they will see you with that skin on (so please everyone get downloading). Technical Bits... Quake 3 skins are different to Quake 2 skins, in that they require
special .skin files that define what graphic file is used to skin each
part of the model (Quake 3 models have a Head,Upper and Lower section).
these skin files are
called: Although id software haven't done it (and I can see why) if you are releasing a skin, the accompanying .skin files should be included, and ideally have the same skinname as your .TGA file, this will make it easy for players to use your skin. For an example on how to make .skin files, just look at the ones included in VisorSkin1.Zip I've just checked BluesNews, and Skin101 are offering a .skin file creater thingy (which saves me from having to offer my utility for download ;-) The .tga file and the three .skin files are then placed into the correct directory under Quake3, (a bit like Q2) and also like Q2 they can be wrapped up into a PAK file. I have chosen not to do this, as we do not know yet how many pak files we are limited to under Quake 3. Credits Credits and thanks go to the artists whose skins I've put in the ZIP file, THESE ARE NOT MY SKINS, I only repacked them and created the .skin files, if your skin is here and you want to be credited by name, please drop me a line Thanks goto Channel0, who took the pictures for me (as I don't have two GL cards yet).
